We stayed one night here. It is very much an old fashioned budget hotel. That said it was clean and everything although old was serviceable and worked well. There is a lot of noise from the road once daylight but it was quiet at night. We were warmly welcomed by a very helpful host. Wifi is included but is very slow and unsuitable for most apps.

Four guys on motorcycles stayed here for 1 night. When we pulled in the first thing we noticed was how run down the place looked. The front step onto the landing to get into the office was a couple of concrete blocks. It also appeared that this place puts up long-stay tenants, either workers or families. Rooms themselves weren't bad, at least they seemed clean. No restaurant within walking distance, which was a perquisite for staying here, although they did have a bar next door "that serves a mean microwave cheeseburger" according to the lady at the hotel desk. No, I don't think so!

A couple of my friends and I came up for a week in March to ski at Smuggs, and stayed here the whole time. The owner, Rich, is a great guy, a man who is very respecting, accommodating, and friendly. With no problem, he set up our room to accommodate our needs, and made it clear to just call the office if there was ANYTHING we needed. During our stay he single handedly cooked us a huge meal, all of which was fantastic. The place is only a few minutes from Smuggs, and the drive is pretty simple. If you're ever passing through Jeffersonville, or coming up to Vermont to ski or watch the foliage turn, stay at Deer Run. When you're there, get to know Rich, he's honestly a great person. He makes a friend out of everyone he meets, and made my stay very comfortable. When I return to Vermont, I'll be staying in Deer Run.

I used to live in the Deerrun, during my 2 plus years working at smuggs in the 1990's. It took me a while to write a review, since in the 90's i didnt have computer and i came across this site and just had to write something. Rich, the owner, is truly a man with heart, patience, and love to all people. As i read the other 'negative reviews' of this hotel, i was both sad and angered, that though the hotel may be unlike a Hyatt in Montreal, it's 'not' supposed to be. Things may be outdated, but this is not necessarily a 'bad thing' either.. Most importantly, whatever a customre may 'not' like about this place or any place, is absolutely 'NOT' Rich's fault. For one owner, of a motel, can have only limited amount of time to take care of everything all alone. Also, the one customer who showed pictures of the 'pool', was unfair. For who in their right mind, will go to a hotel, being aware already that the pool is closed for the season for any reason, and then take a picture of it, and then complain about it??? If anything 'that' says more about the person taking the picture, 'not' the hotel or the owner!
Anyway - i felt obligated to write something, since all t he negative reviews were not fair. Deerrun, is a place with warmth, heart, and if you are one who is willing to 'give of yourself' to others, especially Rich, then he will certainly give back, even more -and with any luck, you will end up with a friend for life! Give this place a chance - if you don't like it for whatever reason, its ok - for often Hyatt and Holiday Inn and Sheratons aren't for all , either - to each their own! Give this place a chance, and in time, this place will give you many chances in return!

Room Tip: Come here with an open mind....and you may leave, with a bag full of memories!

My friend and I moved to vermont for our winter break. We worked at the local ski resort and lived at the deer run. We had an incredible time and attribute a large amount of our joy to our time at the deer run. Rich, the man who handles the place, is by far the nicest person I have ever met. He happily set our room up to accommodate us, and the beds were very clean and comfortable. On christmas he cooked everyone in the motel a HUGE home cooked meal, that made us very happy. On our leaving day, our car battery seemed to disagree with our travel plans, but Rich gave us a battery charger and also enlisted a friend of his to help us with a jump. He goes above and beyond what is expected of him, and he alone made the stay well worth it. The room was everything it was promised to be, and served us well.

Take a chance on the deer run, and when you do make sure you make a point to get to know Rich. From our experience he loves to be around people, and would love to get to know you. People like Rich are what make traveling so great. We WILL be back.
