The bakery is closed until late November while the owner-baker recovers from knee surgery, but everything about it is first rate, from the breads to the pastries and cookies and pies. If you're going to indulge in calories for deserts they should be good ones, and these are extraordinary.

Here is baguette like it is supposed to taste, and the outer shell cracks when you squeeze it. I am in NYC regularly for work. Sure people there rave about some the "French" bread they get there; Balthazar, sure, it looks pretty. It tastes like cardboard. The cheese croissant this baker makes, it is just as good as it gets. You bite into it and you are like, where has this been all my life? Fill with scrambled eggs and sausage at home. Wow. Look I love good bread, but not to slight the pastries, they are simply terrific also. IF YOU ARE WITHIN 300 MILES OF THIS PLACE AND LOVE REAL BAKERIES, GO!

We stopped here on a whim after seeing the great TripAdvisor reviews during a drive through the area this winter. The cookies are AMAZING. Stock up on a variety, since you're not going to want to share. We also had a loaf of seedy bread that we really enjoyed and some crostini for local cheeses. A really delicious bakery just outside of Bennington, off the main road. Easy parking. Worth a visit for some seriously delicious cookies! (I'm sure the pies, pastries and other dessert items are equally good.)

Everything from birthday cakes, to cookies, to sandwiches is home and hand made. The owners are very friendly.
You could pass right by it if you drive over the speed limit. It's on the south side of Rt. 9 east of Bennington downtown.

I stopped to get some breakfast and snacks for the drive. This is not a restaurant, so do not go there expecting a meal. It is, however, a charming bakery where you can see right through to the the baker working in the back.

They had a very nice selection for a small shop and I picked up a couple of croissants, some cookies and a loaf of multi-grain sourdough bread. I was right to give into temptation on the bread - very good. The croissants and cookies were fine.

If you want to stop here, look for the red Dutch shoe and the bicycle perched atop some tulips (the baker is Dutch). This is run by a husband/wife team so be sure to check their facebook page to make sure they will be open.
