We stayed in a King Starview room for 2 nights and were not disappointed. The view from our room was spectacular and we even got to see the International Space Station pass over each night - visible with the naked eye. The King room is a large room with a 3 seat leather sofa and the two end seats recline all the way back. The hotel was very clean and the staff all pleasant. There was even a sign on the bottom of the bedside cabinet stating that it had been cleaned. The bathroom was large and well stocked. There is even a view from the elevator as it has a glass back. All rooms face the same way and all have the spectacular view and was fun in the morning watching everyone out of their balconies in their nightwear and jumpers watching the sunrise. For sunset you need to go the the other side of the hotel but there are balconies and seats there for you to be able to watch. Although expensive, this was well worth paying for just to get the view. If I was staying at Monument Valley again, I would not hesitate to stay there. Although breakfast not included we did get a voucher for $5 each which made the price very reasonable.

Room Tip: King Starview is on corner and extremely large with windows on 3 sides

In late May 2012 our party of three stayed at The View Hotel, which we booked two and a half months earlier. We had a spacious and comfortable third-floor room with two queen beds, a large bathroom and a private patio with sliding glass doors. From the room we could look out over the spectacular Monument Valley, with its iconic monolithic sandstone rock formations rising out of the valley floor. Each room in the hotel has the same size patio with pretty much the same view, but we were happy to be on the third (and highest) floor. The room was very clean and the décor had very attractive Southwest and Native American art motifs. The room had a coffee-maker, a microwave, refrigerator and TV. There is free WiFi in the hotel lobby and one public computer. But there was no coin laundry at the hotel.

Since the hotel is on the territory of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park and is managed by Navajos, the hallways and the lobby of the hotel also featured Navajo art - paintings, sculpture, weavings and sandpaintings. On the premises, there is also a small exhibit on Navajo history and culture, and a room dedicated to the Navajo code talkers of World War II fame.

The hotel has a dining room, gift shop and snack bar. There is also a viewing area where many day visitors arrive in buses and cars to see the Monument Valley vista familiar to people the world over, thanks to the Hollywood westerns that were filmed at this site. There is an entrance fee of $5.00 per person at the entrance to the Navajo Tribal Park, payable by hotel guests and day visitors alike, but hotel guests who wish to leave the park property and return to the hotel the same day can ask for a courtesy pass at the hotel desk.

As an alternative to The View Hotel, there is Goulding’s Lodge a few miles away. From some of their motel rooms, you also have a dramatic view of Monument Valley, but from a greater distance. It is good to have this alternative lodging available, and their museum with lots of Western movie/John Wayne memorabilia is worth a visit. Also, we were told that there is a coin laundry in town near Goulding’s.

We have driven through this area a few times and each time we call in at the Monument Valley Visitors Centre for a break and to take in the view. We have been through the valley on one of the organised truck trips (which was an unforgetable experience) but never stayed. This time we booked a starview room with two queen beds about a year in advance. This hotel gets very mixed reviews, everyone loves the location but not everyone loves the hotel. We found the hotel to be lovely. The room was clean, well appointed and is definitely in a world class location. The only slight negative - I think that the next time the rooms are revised they should box in the fridges, it might make maintaining the rooms a bit tricker but worth be worth it for their guests. The fridges are super enthusiastic if you judge it on terms of noise. Not a big issue but in the middle of the night in a super quiet location it is amazing how loud and noisy they seem. Overall a wonderful stay in an absolutely wonderful location. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to anyone who would like a unique experience. I'd advice a relaxed attitude that goes with the flow. When it gets dark the stars are amazing, we each had the pleasure of seeing a shooting star, and both the sunset and sunrise were spectacular.

The usual criteria simply do not apply to this hotel. Its all about the location. This is the only hotel in the valley itself and the views from the hotel are simply amongst the best in the world. We only stayed one night but were treated to a dramatic thunderstorm in the evening followed by an increadible sunrise on an early morning walk the next day.

The hotel itself is fine - put it almost anywhere else and you would class it as a perfectly fine but unexceptional hotel. What it does brilliantly is blend in to the setting. From the drive through the valley it becomes almost invisible and has no serious visual impact.

Tips: Book very early - Its the only hotel in the valley itself and gets booked up months in advance. If its full when you want to visit, call them early in the morning 6 weeks to the day before you want to go. Thats when the travel agents have to confirm block room bookings for organised trips. So, if you're lucky, they get rooms released and you might just get one if you're quick.

If you have the opportunity to visit Monument Valley don't miss it and a stay at The View is the perfect way to see the valley.

Room Tip: They all face the valley!

The name promises and the location, architecture and property deliver!!! Our room had a spectacular view of Monument Valley no matter the time of day. The hotel is built in a fashion that even from the valley floor it fits the natural beauty both in architecture and color and is as non- obtrusive as can be. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed and the beds terrific. The staff is friendly and provides terrific service. Two nights here was a joy along our great southwest trip!

Room Tip: All rooms have terrific views as the hotel is built with all rooms facing Monument Valley
