The rooms and hotel itself are well presented. However if you are British there are no British channels on offer on TV. The menu is extensive but if you have a fish allergy then that rules out half the menu and if you are not a lover of really rich food then it's not for you.
Poolside bar was lovely, but again don't expect basic daytime snacks.
Overall, nice hotel but not somewhere you would go for a two week holiday

This has to be one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in, and made my first trip to Gran Canaria one that I will never forget. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are friendly and helpful. I'd like to make a special mention to Juan in the Sky Bar! He was polite and helpful and has a lovely manner (my partner Piers asked if he could have eggs benedict and Juan arranged this for him the next day!). The Junior Corner Suite is just simply outstanding and the perfect place to enjoy a lazy day on the sun terrace. If you're looking for the ultimate in luxury then Bohemia Suites and Spa should be top of your list.

This is a long review of the hotel and the surrounding. If you have not booked already reading the BOOKING section it will save you £££/€€€.

Booking:

We made a mistake here, we booked via a travel site but in this case booking direct has great benefits as follows. The hotel website claims:

If you book direct with them and find a cheaper price on any travel site, they will under cut it by 10%. This could have saved us £190.00!!

Free airport transfer one way. We took a taxi and it cost €40.00, travel time 20 minutes. Ensure you ask for Bohemia Suites & Spa as here is another hotel called Bohemia.

Early check in / late 1500 hrs check out - price element not known for this so not included in the savings amount below.
Free Spa treatment worth circa €60 x 2

In all for stay this would have saved us £335.00!!!! (Exchange rate used £1.00 = €1.125 which is what I bought my Euros for in mid June 2017).

Arrival:

As the cab pulled up outside (Meter style like a black cab), Concierge came outside and greeted us with a luggage trolley. Also at the entrance was a uniformed security guard, who was always there no matter what time we passed him.

Within two minutes passports checked and accommodation voucher handed over and we where in the lift to the bar for the welcome drink - anything you like from the menu. When ready you are shown to your room.

Room:

We booked a Junior suite for seven nights for two people, with Sea view with breakfast cost £1930 via a Travel site and stayed in room 406 on the 4th floor.

We would advise against Room 406 as 50% of the view is blocked by the hotel in front so you only see their roof! The other 50% is genuine Sea view. We recommend getting a room on the 7th floor so you have 100% Sea view as this is what you are paying for. We were short changed by the hotel as no mention of this is made when we booked. This should be mentioned along the lines of “Room on floors XX have an obstructed Sea view…….”

The room was well appointed with an extremely comfortable bed and very high quality bedding and furnishings.

Room features:

Air con - lowest setting 22 degrees
King size bed
Sofa
Tablet with wifi works inside and outside of the hotel and has Satnav. Plug into the USB of your car hire so battery does not run down
Desk n Chair and stationary
Walk in Wardrobe
Safe - great feature a plug socket inside so you can charge devices securely whilst out of the room!
His n hers basins
Huge shower - fits six people in one go!
Separate WC
TV
Coffee maker with illiy coffee
Moulton Brown toiletries
iMac
Blutooth speaker system
Hair dryer…….a bit slow my misses tells me…… it's not as fast at drying as her Dyson!
Double balcony with double day bed and arm chairs

Plus a bucket load of extras from wood shoe horn, to quality toiletries, fruit, great mini bar, beech kit, turn down service, bottled water, beech bag etc etc the list could go on and on!!!!

On Check In we were offered an upgrade to a sky suite at a cost on an extra €160 per night.

The Sky Room comes with a well stocked free mini bar, free use of the hotel hire car BMW or Audi, complimentary airport transfer one way plus a few other extras.

Breakfast:

Served in the restaurant on the 8th floor with great Sea views and of the Dunes. Food a good all round choice including:

Tea
Coffee
Juices and water
Hot eggs - fried, scrambled, poached, omelette etc
Bacon
Hot dog type sausage
Beans - Heinz
Breads and pastries
Fresh fruits
Seeds, nuts and dried fruits
Yogurts
Cheese and cold meat platters
Cereals
Condiments but no Brown sauce

The wait is a little longer on weekends, but your on holiday so why rush?

Pool:

Two large pools with waterfalls and a jacuzzi to each.
Lots of loungers and 4 Poster Bed type.
No early morning towel brigade reserving loungers then turning up at 4 pm to use them!
Great bar with drinks and food served to you.
Nice sun lounge and seating area.
All Areas dressed in stone no concrete in sight.
We found arriving at 1600 hrs after a beach day etc that there was no loungers left in the Front pool. Pool area to side of the hotel only gets Sun in the AM and early afternoon, pool at the front of the hotel has Sun all day. Although as I write it is the peak week of the peak season.
The front pool also has an underwater, water jet to simulate a current so you can swim hard without moving forward.

Hotel Bar:

For a great relaxed and stylish drinks with live entertainment most evenings.
Great cocktails made professionally with premium spirits and mixers.
Awesome Gin collection served in balloons to a Gin Palace standard.
Cool in the evening with a light breeze, mood lighting and fire torches.
Get there early as it is very popular.

Car Hire:

We pre-booked with an outside company (£79 for mini convertible + insurance) but cancelled when the hotel offered us an Audi A3 (1500 km on the clock), with unlimited insurance cover it was €67 for the day including the car.

TIP: Samsung Tablet supplied with Room has built in GPS / Satnav, just log in using something like your FB credentials and it works fine. No need to hire a Satnav. WAZE also works in GC if you switch on data roaming on your phone.

Beech & Sand Dunes:

10 minute walk from hotel - many steps to contend with. Next To beach is a strip of bars, restaurants etc even McD. Good choice, lots with live music.

Hotel provides beach bag with towels and water.

Hire of two Sunbeds and an umbrella €7.50 per day! - Two min walk from the strip with bars and restaurants etc even a Spar and a Pharmacy.

Beach sellers periodically walk around selling cold soft and alcoholic drinks, fresh fruits and ice creams etc. Can of Fanta etc €2.50

Beach has a naturalist area so lots of wobbly, hanging and swinging bits on show lol.

You can walk along the beach around the Dunes to the lighthouse at Meloneas, it takes about 90 minutes one way.

Out n About:

Taxi - call reception and it takes three to five minutes to arrive.

Meloneras Area - 10 min taxi ride cost €6 - head for the Light house as this is where all the fashionable bars, restaurants (Steak grill, Sea food, Italian etc), and high end shopping is. Comparable to Central London boutique style establishments a must go and was our favourite night time destination. This also the place to watch the best Sunset we found serene and beautiful.

Yumba - huge shopping, restaurant and bar area 10 min walk from hotel.

Caters for all taste and all orientations from party bars, clubs, Tranny stage shows (Absolutely brilliant a must see), to the Bear Cave - no dress code, slings, dark rooms, darker rooms, cabins and a douche room so the adverts tell you!

Random live street entrainment which you can watch whilst sitting in bars and restaurant.

Stayed here for a week on a romantic break. Extremely welcoming staff and terrace bar superb. Minor hiccup with room-service bringing undercooked food which we sent back but overall a great hotel. Definitely recommended.

Suite 507. Great room. Lovely View even if you are met with a lot of other rooftops from the balcony, which you just have to ignore as best you can to appreciate the view of the beach and the ocean and the dunes. But that is what happens when you have so many buildings virtually sitting on top of each other. The promise of a sea view with rooftops would be more correct and being honest for other travellers reading or visiting. As for the hotel it is beautifully stylish and the staff cannot do enough for you especially in the restaurant. Breakfast was always inviting and the staff on duty warm and approachable especially Juan. However whilst relaxing and chilled and very private the hotel has no atmosphere whatsoever and we found all the other guests stand offish and aloof. Whether this is because they don't want to say good morning due to the environment they are in or whether they just couldn't be bothered but it really made the atmosphere around the pool area strange and was especially dead and a little bit claustrophobic leading it to being the most boring and uninviting pool area we have ever sat by, with a mini waterfall that is so loud it was not conducive to relaxing. And whilst our visit was pleasant overall and we were well looked after by everyone I don't think we would visit again. The Bohemia feels like a stylish city hotel that has been scooped up and plonked by the seaside and you half expect men in suits to be sitting by the pool doing business rather than taking a break from life.

Room Tip: Sea view side of the hotel available. The higher up the better.

Dear Cathy,

It is great to hear that you had a nice stay with us!

we are delighted, that you have been highly satisfied with our service and the always welcoming staff, as well as with your Junior Suite and the rich breakfast buffet on the rooftop with breathtaking views.
Bohemia is a sophisticated lifestyle oasis for adults only, for indulgence in total peace and privacy. At Bohemia you can be yourself, feel as if you would stay with good friends and at the same time enjoy 5 star service. We regret that you could not enjoy the atmosphere by the pool, whilst other guests have been enjoying the peaceful and private atmosphere.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel! We hope that you will change your mind about another visit!
