Just spent 9 nights, very disappointing, reception area dark and depressing, not really for holidaymakers, more appropriate for travelling for work. Service extremely poor, a wheelchair guest got very little assistance. Various requests for a variety of issues fell on deaf ears. Not a single umbrella in pool area, food uninspiring. Don’t think hotel has an identity, lacks direction and falls way short of. 4 star rating, certainly won’t be back! Poor wi fi in room, good location, always finish on a positive!

Room tip: Higher the better

We stayed here for 10 nights and it was a lovely clean hotel and felt very secure. I had emailed and asked for a room with twin beds as I was with a friend, however despite this we were given a room on the 2nd floor with a big bed. We didn't like the sliding door affair with the see through door to the toilet either. I went down and complained and was told to come back the following morning. We were then given a room on the 1st floor with twin beds and an actual door to the bathroom, much better. We were much happier with this room. The bathroom was enormous with a walk in shower and a bath at the other end, shower also had hand rails which was great. The room itself was lovely and big with a large balcony, could do with a small table out there though. Small fridge in room, always good to have. Air conditioning was great also. Everything very clean and fresh towels every day.
The staff are very helpful and friendly, we had booked bed and breakfast so I can't comment on the evening meals, although I heard things about that! Breakfast was fine, plenty of tables and loads of choices. There are loads of restaurants and bars only a short walk away and the seafront is very near, two minutes takes you down there. Buses are plentiful going to Cambrils and La Pineda, Tarragona in the other direction. Bus stops are only a couple of minutes from the hotel on the sea front. We were given user names and passwords for the wifi but it wasn't good, kept saying there was a problem, so we just used our mobile data. We enjoyed our stay at the Magnolia Hotel.

The location of the hotel is good for access to the beach and surrounding restaurants. The rooms are large and the bed was great. I wasn't happy with the frosted glass door in the toilet which you could not lock. The air conditioning in the room was inadequate and the room was frequently too hot for a comfortable nights sleep. When we complained about it to the reception, we were told that there was a known fault on the 6th floor and that they would try and fix it again. It worked for a day then went back to the way it was before.
The evening meals were shockingly bad for a 4 star plus hotel. My wife ordered a beefburger and it came out raw in the middle. We sent it back and the chef came out to apologise, she said that 'the new guy' has cooked it. Sorry but that is no excuse, if you can't cook a burger then you shouldn't be in a kitchen. We tried a few other evening meals which were terrible as well and ended up eating out for the rest of the holiday. Breakfasts were good.

Room tip: Air Con is not good on the 6th floor.

Dear Graeme, thank you for your opinion and we regret the inconveniences you mention in your post. Obviously, the answer at the restaurant was not an adequate answer, and we apologize. We regret that our meals didn't achieve your expectations and have taken note of all your comments to improve everything possible. Thank you again for your time and if you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.

Went here for a weeks break. First impression, weird smell as we walked through reception. Staff were fine, room was amazing, but the food was awful. We were half board, and when we arrived in the evening we went to the restaurant. At first I thought there may have been a power cut, but no, the hotel was in semi darkness. The portion of the food ordered was ridiculously small. We had to leave and get something to eat elsewhere. We attended the restaurant for a second time a few nights later to make sure it wasn’t just an off night. It wasn’t. Two vegetarian options only, which means vegetarians would have had to eat the same two meals all week. Breakfast wasn’t much better. Had to queue for use of one toasting machine. Fried eggs were disgraceful. 4 star + hotel? Staff should be ashamed of themselves, I’ve eaten better at cafes with no stars! And someone should tell the elderly waiter that slamming cups onto saucers in the outside breakfast area at 4.50am on a Saturday morning is not needed, nor is it funny, and I certainly don’t think it’s a 4 star requirement. And for future hotel users, the views of our superior room was over other roof tops. This hotel has been crammed in. If you need food, which I’m sure you will, nip round to Danny Boys or Robin Hoods, they can certainly fry an egg properly, and it’s edible!

Room tip: All have same view.

Dear guest, thank you for your opinion. It is unexpectedly for us to learn that you have such a bad impression on the food. Our dinner system, that includes buffet for starters and desserts, and a menu for the main courses, allows to choose from a wide selection of dishes and is normally well considered by our guests. We regret that we couldn't afford your expectations in this respect and take note of your comments. Sincerely,

Nice hotel, decent breakfast and great pool area. Staff seemed friendly and hotel was clean. We had an enormous balcony which was a plus! Would recommend to other couples wishing to holiday in Salou. Extremely close to the beach/bars.
