This was my first family all inclusive holiday and was more than happy with quality availability and choice of food on offer. It was a bit of a drag to the beaches, the poolside was exceptionally slippy and I took a tumble whilst walking very carefully but the worst thing for me was the evening entertainment. The kids show started at 9.30 which was way too late for my 3 y o grandson. The grown ups shows were mainly very amateurish, bad singing and dancing but worst of all was the noise which prevented anyone for miles around trying to sleep before midnight. This meant the 3 y o was so tired he wanted to go home halfway through the holiday. Overall a good venue but not ideal for our party. Don't let me put you off. Just be aware.

Room Tip: Get a room not overlooking the pool if you want to sleep before midnight.

We stayed 2 weeks ago
Good things
Location is excellent, close to shops/bars/restaurants but far enough away not to be disturbed by vibrant night life
Staff are in the main very friendly, excellent with children
Entertainment OK, Kids up to 10pm then adults,
Food very good no problems at all. Alfresco terrace for lunch or main dining room, Drinks OK
Drinks are the usual local brands but not bad
Several bars, one late night one with very large TV screen, TV screens dotted around other bars
Buses & 3 different tourist trains stop outside so can travel to anywhere easily
We had Premier Rooms booked direct with hotel, Champagne on arrival, bag of toiletries, bathrobes & slippers, fresh towels/bedding every day. 19" flat screen TV with some English channels, plenty of plugs. Sun all day on balcony, decking on balcony so feet do not burn.

Not so Good
Premier rooms on 6th floor of Calypso 11 building, lift to 5th floor then up a flight of stairs, no good for disabled people
There appears to be some refurbishment up to 4th floor but carpets on 5th & 6th floors were disgusting, threadbare & stained, always covered in bits.
The stairwell going up to 6th floor was utilitarian & dismal
Jacuzzi only available July/Aug
There is a large separate Toilet from walk in shower, these are constructed of coloured glass, no locks on doors, gap of 3/4" between door & wall so no real privacy in Toilet, One of the walls in shower room is clear glass, so no privacy in shower.
If you put the toilet light on at night, whole room is lit up with orange light
Small basin in Toilet for hand wash, soap dispenser (empty) but no shelf for toiletries or hook for towel.
Full length massage shower in walk in shower cubicle. The massage jets not used seemed to blast water down your ears, nose etc but shower itself was excellent, stand on duckboard but drain was partially blocked so water flooded into room. Again no shelves so no place for toiletries.
Average size wardrobe with 3 small drawers & safe (deposit payable for key)
2 full length of room shelves making the vanity unit, space for fridge but no fridge.
Round bowl on top of vanity unit so shaving etc done there but again no privacy.
The whole of the woodwork was very scratched, base board rotten & patched with different coloured contiboard.
1 double bed with space around it of about 2 feet, no chairs/table as there was no room to swing a cat, watched tv sitting on the bed.
Patio with duckboard (no hot) feet but the surrounding rough cast concrete walls were painted orange but were very dirty. Nice small stainless steel table & 2 chairs, 1 up market sunbed but had 2 holes in it.No patio light so could not sit out to have drinks/do crossword etc available on all floors apart from 6th.

Deposit payable for hairdryer

The Premier Rooms seem like a good idea but are not very comfortable. The standard refurbished room seemed more practicable and comfortable..

We probably would return but not to the Premier rooms

Room Tip: Look for refurbished rooms in main building

Stay 10-17th June 2012 Husband and 2 kids age 9 and 5. Well we went with a 9 year old - didn't see much of her whilst we were there - had to FORCE her to come to Port Aventura (which of course she loved). She met lots of friends.
This is a long review but if you are doubtful, well worth a read. We ummed and aahed between this and another 2 and are so glad we chose here!!
We opted to get a taxi ourselves at airport and we were at Calypso on sunbeds by 10.15am!! x 30 Euros set price - about 15 mins away.
When we arrived our paperwork said check in 4pm but the reception gave us our all inc bands starightaway and told us to come back at 12 for room key, meanwhile somewhere to put bags and get cozzies on!!
We got perfect beds on Calypso 2 pool right in the sun all day (most are around that pool).
We have our main holiday to Egypt each year in Sept/Oct so stay in some lovely hotels but we were suitably impressed here. It weren't 5 star but a very good 3 star!
Hotel itself was pretty clean, pool side areas could have done with a hose down and beds every now and then but it wasn't dirty dirty. No pool towels - take your own!
Rooms - We were in Calypso 2 overlooking the pool. Yes there were Spanish school teenagers in our block but they were all kept together on the first floor and always very well behaved. They weren't around the pool or hotel in the day or running riot at night. Free safe, four beds in our room but fine, cleaned every day, fresh towels, plasma tv with some UK channels.
Food - Breakfast was good, full english available with decent bacon and often english saus and beans. eggs good. croissants, pastries, jams, fruit and individual yoghurts.
Lunch - we always went al fresco, little boy had hot dogs or burgers, all cooked well because I won't let them eat anything that looks even slightly dodgy. Sandwiches, toasties, soup, bbq and lots of lovely salad and fruit.
Evening meal - Both myself and children are fussy eaters but there was always something. You tell me one hotel that isn't a little repetitive.. the soups are lovely and the salad too. There is a section for the children but mine ate off of the main selection each night.
If you are still hungry then they do burgers, fries, etc from 10pm- 11.30pm. They also give out trays of crisps from the bars all day and night.
Drink - Cold San Miguel on tap - lovely!! x Spirits were strong but just tell them to stop or say small one and they do it for you.
Entertainment - 2 kids clubs but only if go with First Choice or Thomas Cook???? xx hotel animacion team try and get you involved though if you want to..... x
Night entertainment is what it is in most hotels, great for the kids and to me if they are happy - i am!! x They tried hard and I thought it was alright. Seen a hell of a lot worse!!! Could do with updating the mini disco songs a bit.. xx Contrary to other peoples thoughts we quite enjoyed that the mini disco didn't start til 9.30. It meant you could sit by the pool and enjoy the evening sun, then get changed without the kids saying hurry up i'm going to miss the disco, have a drink and your tea before it started. And again, if you complain about it going on til 12pm, I think you need to stay in a villa in middle of nowhere - You're on holiday live a little!!
We were there for 2 England games and they realised they needed to open the bar earlier in the Apple bar - lots of teles.
Pools xx we didn't find you had to be up at the crack of dawn to get a bed, lots of beds waiting to be put in lots of space. Seemed abit more competitive around Calypso 1, where water is a little warmer but ok in other once you in!! My 5 yr old son was in and out all day, its deep but he's a good swimmer. Park great for him too. Lots of areas around paddling pools and river type things. No one moans if you move sunbeds around. May be more of a problem in Summer hols.
Out n about. Short walk to shops and beach, beach beautiful. At shops in 2/3 mins and beach in 10-15 but a nice walk. Some nice bars etc.
We went to Port Aventura and it was great. Kids loved it!! xx Quite expensive and pay for children over 4 but I didn't pay for my son as he is quite short so said he was 3. No one even questioned it and tbh if I'd have paid for him I would have complained because he was too small for alot of the rides, even in the kids parts xx
All in all great holiday xxYou get what you pay for and more here xxx Defo going back and reccommendxx Met some great people xx left hotel at 8.20am and was in my home for 12.45 and I live 1hr 20 mins from airport here.

Room Tip: Didn't see rooms in Calypso 1 looks new from outside but from reading on here think Calypso 2 ne...

ive only just come back from calypso hotel, staff are very friendly, one barman from downstairs bar with short dreadlocks was obnoxious and arrogant. the rest were absolutly lovely. location was excellent, shops just round the corner. the hotel was beautiful and clean throughout, the buffet food was absolutly fantastic, and also the restaurant food aswell. the only bad thing about it is the entertainment, the kids disco doesnt start till 9.30pm, and the music doesnt stop till mid night, plus with it all being outside, its so loud. the hotel rep was absolutly brilliant, lovely person, could not have asked for better.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of June 2012 The hotel itself was really clean the rooms are avarge but again clean. The Hotel is situated about 10 mins from the main strip and there is a train stop outside the hotel which runs the whole lenth of the main strip this costs €3 each way. We found that it was cheaper to get a taxi if the walk was too much as it cost only costs between €5 and €8 for up to 8 people.

We stayed in Calypso 1 but did view the rooms in Calypso 2 these seem to be more modern with plasma tv and newer furnishings however calypso 2 seemed o be for full bored guests only.
We stayed all inclusive the Sam Miguel draft was really nice and you could get 2 drinks at a time. However spirits were way too strong and they wouldn't put them in a large glass and top them up with coke so I ended up queuing twice jut for more coke. The soft drinks too were nice and not cheap rola cola.
The food
Although there was something I liked every day the food got quite repetitive and we often ate in the alfresco bar which was basically a BBQ serving chicken and steak and burgers and kebabs with a selection of salad and pizza etc oh and if you like fries you will be fine.
The not so good bits
We found that you had to be up quite early if you wanted a chance of a sun bed but there are plenty of tables and chairs for everyone.
The entertainment was a bit hit and miss the michael Jackson night was quite good and childred are kept entertained but the comedy night was poor and just rude not funny.
Ice may not be a good idea or it might have been the water even though it was bottled but our entire party had a case of the runs.

For the money this hotel is worth a go we had a good holiday and I would defo go back.

Room Tip: Adjoining rooms are available so it's worth asking at the time of booking. Don't pay the ext...
