“Good basic but comfortable overnight stop in convenient location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2012

This was our first visit to les Frangins and was a pleasant surprise.St Omer is not blessed with great hotels we have tried most of them, all the town centre hotels are pretty basic but I would return to the Frangins it is not fancy BUT great location and comfy bed and what more do you need, very friendly helpful owners pretty good breakfast so it gets my vote. Parking is on the street outside which is metered so over night was ok but we had to feed the meter before breakfast though only a euro or 2 but cheap for hour or so, so not a problem but be aware.
We have stayed at the saint Louis but the parking is a real pain and somehow seems to attract groups of blokes not the friendliest place to stay, and small cramped rooms hard beds sounds awful, but it's not that bad we have stayed a few times, the sapiniere just outside town looks nice and the rooms are better but the restaurant is dire, dead flys on the window cills and just grotty. Our car wouldnt lock because of the phone mast right next door. So no benefit for spending more and being out of town to us. The ibis is basic and ok nothing really to report on it long time since we've stayed there. St Omer is such a good spot for restaurants so we put up with the not so great hotels it needs a nice boutique hotel!

We stayed here for 2 nights on a weekend break. Found our room very basic with a hand-shower in the bathtub, but clean and everything working fine. Be aware of street noise if you open the windows. Staff really friendly and welcoming and we loved the bar area and beer selection. The restaurant was fantastic, amazing value for money and the food was delicious. We had the salmon carpaccio which they smoke in house, and the staff also bought round some foie gras and brought our drinks over insisting we didn't get up. Would use again as location so good. Don't expect fancy rooms but try their restaurant!

Room Tip: Try to get one at the very front of the hotel not on the sides which open up over streets.

I have visited this hotel on previous occasions and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Alas, the most recent visit was not up to our expectations. Our room was in a state of disrepair. The shower unit didn't work and the wash basin was badly cracked. Moreover, I had e-mailed the hotel twice to ask them to confirm that they had reserved a table in the restaurant for Saturday evening for 9 persons. I didn't hear from them but on arrival, I was told that the restaurant is closed on a Saturday evening. Were they afraid that if they had told me they weren't opening the restaurant, I would have cancelled our bookings and gone elsewhere? It wasn't a big problem as there are some very nice restaurants in St. Omer. I just felt that overall, this hotel was not up to its hitherto good standard/service. Would I go there again. I regret to say that I wouldn't. All good things eventually come to an end or so they say.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room.

Basic hotel situated in centre of town, rooms are clean but a bit tired. If I visited Saint Omer again I would only stay here if there was nowhere else. The hotel ideally placed for restaurants and close to the town square. The square has a few bars and is good for a spot of people watching, really enjoyed our evening there.

Room Tip: There is a bar downstairs a room on the 3rd floor helped witht the noise.

The hotel seemed fine when we arrived. We had a pleasant lunch and the rooms were fine. It seemed like a nice, quiet part of town as well although very central for the restaurants.
We went out for dinner and returned later for what we hoped would be a good night sleep. No such luck. There was music blaring out all night right outside our window and people shouting in the streets until around 6am. We therefore got no sleep at all and what we had hoped would be a lovely, restful weekend break turned into us returning to England exhausted.
I can't vouch for other nights but do not stay there on a Saturday night.

Room Tip: As you face the restaurant from outside, make sure you do not get a room down the side streeet on th...
