We’d been looking forward to kayaking on the Vezere river prior to visiting the area and had chosen the sunniest day of the week just in case we got wet and needed to dry off quickly.

However, there were a number of storms during the first part of the week and when we contacted the company we were told they would need to confirm due to the river levels. We found out the evening before that the activity would not be running, but communication was excellent and we will definitely try again when we are next in the area.

The site is right by the large aquarium in Le Bugue so head for there if you need to find it. The staff spoke good English and were helpful. You had a choice of 5km, 12km, 21km and 26km paddles. The 12km one cost 17 Euros each with a discount for children under 10.

My only gripe was that you were charged 2 Euros to hire a water proof barrel for your stuff which I thought should have been included in the price.

The river was shall and gently flowing so is ideal for family canoeing, you have life jackets but a lot of people took them off as it was so hot and the water was very shallow.

A fun family event in the sunshine.

Great kit and a beautiful stretch of river to paddle along. We got good directions and everything ran according to the plan. The river is beautiful - dragonflies landed on our paddles and we saw kingfishers - the Dordogne is better for chateau spotting but the vezere is all about nature.

Well organised. Well worth doing. Not too friendly, but this is France. We did a 3 hour trip which was about right with 2 kids. Wouldn't want longer.

Parking is easy, the snack bar serves lovely paninis! We booked in easily and were given everything we needed, including hiring a container to hold our belongings in. We chose to paddle from the site for 2 hours and the river was peaceful and pretty. The paddling was easy as it was with the river flow. We saw fish, kingfisher, herons and egrets. We stopped at Limeuil for a welcome drink and then met the staff 10mins down river for an efficient journey back to base.
Would highly recommend this trip and company!!
