Just got home from a 4 night stay at the holiday inn resort baruna..
Was a little unsure about booking this hotel as there were mixed reviews - we loved it. Have stayed in 4 hotels in the last 3 weeks over Bali and Thailand and this one was our fav!
Staff were super friendly and helpful, our room was cleaned everyday+ complementary bottles of water, meals were reasonably priced (nasi gorang $4.50au), cocktails at the envy bar by the beach were the best we had on our holiday although a little pricey they were well with it (~$9- 10). Pool and pool bar beautiful and clean- not as good cocktails as the envy bar tho, brekky was nice- eggs cooked to order and bought to your table, fresh paterys and heaps of other stuff, I loved that if the sun beds are left with towels on them and no one occupying them the staff move the towels and belongings after an hour. Nothing worse than pple hogging chairs for the day when they are not even there!
Laundry was priced competitively and fast! We had 20 pieces washed dryed and folded for $10au and returned only about 5 hrs later at no extra charge. (you can also get laundry done even cheaper at one of the nearby shops but it is so convenient not to leave the hotel with it)
They have an in house shop that sells drinks- we bought a 600ml bottle of water for about 25c au so cheap there but to purchase the water at the bar was expensive. $8 for 750ml.
Don't have kids myself, went just my boyfriend and I but looks like a great place for kiddies and families and also a great place for young and young at heart as its so close to town without being right in the middle of it all.
Just one negative- the room had a funny mouldy smell.. You do get used to it.. I think it's in all the rooms and the kitchen area as I have read reviews about the smell and even the water Mellon at brekky seemed to have soaked in the mouldy smell flavour.

Mouldy smell aside, we will definately be staying here again!

Located beachside just 5 minutes from the airport in southern Kuta.

Hotel was fully refurbished about 4 years ago and rooms and grounds have been well maintained but you will still find some minor issues like faulty shower heads etc. While many reviewers have commented on the comfortable pillows the ones in our room were well past their use by date – might be better for the hotel to move to washable ones?

Food and beverage is generally good and reasonably priced although the breakfast offerings are Bali standard and didn’t vary much during our 7 night stay – that said there aren’t many breakfast options in the immediate vicinity of the hotel and kids can eat free with paying adults. Envy bar and restaurant overlooking the beach offers the best lunch and dinner options – their grills are excellent.

We found the housekeeping, pool and food and beverage staff friendly and helpful. Front desk service varied considerably but overall can improve.

Kids club is okay but not really suitable for preteens who will find the 4 to 11 area pretty tame but aren’t allowed to use the area set aside for older kids/teens.

The only real issue we had during our 7 night stay was with the in house transport service – on two occasions we were let down with drivers refusing to honour bookings or going missing in action. If you’re travelling in a small group the taxi service is fine and generally cheaper.

Road congestion is an ever growing problem in Bali with a trip from the hotel to the restaurants in trendy Seminyak taking up to 45 minutes in evening peak (and it’s currently low season!) – so if Seminyak is where you plan to spend most of your evenings this resort probably isn’t your best option. Hotel is however close to Discovery Mall, Waterbom, Kuta Square and the some good art markets.

Room Tip: Hotel has plenty of family friendly accommodation with the most suitable rooms for families being th...

Being Platimun for Priority Club awards I have stayed at a lot of Holiday Inns around the world. This one is a higher standard than a lot. Good facilities and very friendly and helpful staff. The main restaurant is boring and more of a bistro standard, however the bar at the beach and the views of the sunset are both beautiful and romantic! Airconditioning was excellent and much better than many of the other places we haved stayed at in Bali. Good value for money and for those who just want to vege out - excellent. Due to trafficin Bali becoming impossible plan at least twice the time required to get anywhere. One negative if you have the two cocktails for the price of 1 make sure that you don't get a diluted drink with half the alcohol!

Room Tip: Ocen view room either look over the pool or the beach and are far superior than the garden view roo...

It calls itself a 5 star but really it is a good 4* plus. Whilst my husband worked....my son & I spent most of the time at this Resort for 5 nts. For a relaxed, easy style Resort with a g8 pool...good kids club & most of the things you need - it is worth staying at. It is on the beach (which was an attraction originally) - but unfortunately the beach is not that appealing and it wouldn't hurt for the Resort to have a regular sand clean up of all the debris & rubbish that is on its sand outside the resort & further along the beach walk.

Pros:
- Spacious rooms (we stayed in a Ajana Suite). Yes there is a musty smell but it wears off after a while & if you are creative you can always buy something to mask it.
- Lovely large outdoor v'dah - where you can easily setup your own table of a night & order room service for a romantic dinner for 2!
- Main Pool & Children's pool are g8. They also offer pool toys which everyone can share
- Grounds are immaculate. Very impressed with the level of attention.
- Pool Menu good (keep in mind you can also order from the restaurants if there is not enough choice)!
- Lounge music around the pool of a day was a lovely & an added bonus!
- Restaurants I would give a general 6/10....food reasonably good/ wine list very average & they were out of stock of most things (but I think that is a Bali thing in general)
- F&B staff were always very cheerful & welcoming (& good attention to detail with names etc..)

Cons:
- Beach was disappointing
- Housekeeping (daily service of the room) very average. They do the minimum replenishments. A bottle top & dead cricket however stayed on the floor for the whole week.
- Lots of bugs in the room - but simply ask for a can of spray and keep it in the room.
- The Resort car service was sold as the same price as local taxis which is NOT TRUE. It's probably double.
- Pool Bar (whilst the staff were very nice)....the cocktails were OK....need some training!

Overall - If they are to rank themselves a 5* Resort they really need attention to a few things that make it luxurious!

Room Tip: Definitely worth upgrading to the Ajana Suite for extra space & coomfort.

We are staying at the holiday inn in tuban. It's a lovely 10 min walk into kuta for shopping. Over the road is a day spa called the green lantern which is out of this world. On a Saturday night the palms resteraunt in the hotel has a chicken meal to feed to adults and two children for 22 Australian dollars. The foods lovely and fresh and the breakfast buffet has everything including the gluten free breads etc. the kids love the big pool which they can spend the day in while us adults sit around the kabana or by the pool bar. It's a great place for families and the rooms are nice and quiet. The pillows are lovely I wish I could take mine home ith me. The staff are so friendly and do anything to make your stay more comfortable. It was my 7 year old nephews birthday while here and they organized a birthday cake for him and all the staff sang happy birthday and shook his hand afterwards. He was really cuffed with the birthday are from the staff to. If you want a peaceful holiday for the family it's here at the holiday inn.

Room Tip: If you are a priority member you get a daily paper and can organize a later check out.
