“Worth a visit”

East Texas Oil Museum
Ranked #1 of 7 things to do in Kilgore
Attraction details

We took the tour with a guide - which really isn't necessary, but a guide was available so we took advantage of their services. You'll see a brief video about their oil rush which is informative. The most impressive feature, in my opinion, is their authentic looking, sounding, and smelling old town set. I think, no matter your age, young or not so young, will enjoy this place.

This is a great place for local and out of town visitors. It's a little trip back in time to the early 1930s when the United States was in the great depression, but Kilgore and east Texas struck oil.

It's around $8.00 for kids I think. My kids enjoyed it for about an hour, got bored a little. Adults will like it, especially if you grew up in the area or have a fondness for the time period of the early 20th century.

The only drawback is the museum is virtually untouched from the 1980s (my first visit there) & the exhibits are still great, but a pretty dated. A few updates - and this could be a 5 star visit.

Skip the lobby cartoon video at the beginning. My kids lost interest in it after 60 seconds.

Still highly recommend this place for kids 3 & up. Much better than the average walk through museum. Good deal on rainy days.

This museum is just one building, although it seems to be packed with elaborate, professional dioramas. However, the associated website was not clear about the fees. Current rates are about $8 adults & $5 children. The young lady at the front entrance was a very gracious hostess.

while visiting Kilgore with my sister and her grandchildren we decided to visit the museum, this place is interesting and informative. the children are 11 and 14 and found it to be really good fun. although not that big we found enough to keep us there almost four hours. It was well worth the trip and would recommend it to anyone in the area

Learned a lot about the history of east Texas oil. They have a cute area that is a recreated Main Street with historical items.
