“Surprised by fees”

East Texas Oil Museum
Ranked #1 of 7 things to do in Kilgore
Attraction details
Reviewed 17 June 2017 via mobile

This museum is just one building, although it seems to be packed with elaborate, professional dioramas. However, the associated website was not clear about the fees. Current rates are about $8 adults & $5 children. The young lady at the front entrance was a very gracious hostess.

while visiting Kilgore with my sister and her grandchildren we decided to visit the museum, this place is interesting and informative. the children are 11 and 14 and found it to be really good fun. although not that big we found enough to keep us there almost four hours. It was well worth the trip and would recommend it to anyone in the area

Learned a lot about the history of east Texas oil. They have a cute area that is a recreated Main Street with historical items.

This is a must see in Kilgore!

Welcome to the East Texas Oil Museum, located on the campus of Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. This fascinating museum houses the authentic re-creation of oil discovery and production in the early 1930s from the largest oil field inside U.S. boundaries. Here, visitors see the people, their towns, their personal habits, their tools and their pastimes – all colorfully depicted in dioramas, movies, sound presentations and actual antiques donated by East Texas citizens.

This place wa really good! It lays out the history of oil (and makes you wonder why we buy the foreign stuff!). The history was fascinating. Several of the displays are inter-active and the 8 minute long elevator journey to the center of the earth (and back) is not to be missed - VERY cute!.Do it!
