Review of The Grove

Attraction details
Owner description: A one-hour tour of one of Jefferson's most historic - and haunted - locations. The Grove is an 1861 home that uniquely mirrors the history of the riverport city... and the ghost stories there go back over 100 years. The history of the home is fascinating; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Along with the history, though, you'll hear ghost stories from the owners and find out just what it's like to live in a haunted home. Come visit The Grove for a peek into Jefferson's past... and a few residents who may still be hanging around!

Loved The Grove, it was such an awesome experience. Tour dragged on a little (i think it was because we are lazy and prefer sitting to standing haha). Great stories!

“The place to see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2011

this was my second trip to the Grove; to bring a new friend. Mr. Whittington will not disappoint you as he knows the history of Jefferson and the home. A very good tour to do.
I never experienced anything strange in the home while there.

“Love it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2011

Went to the Sunday afternoon tour. The house is great. The first two rooms are authentic and make you feel like you're walking back in time. The rest of the house is a little more modern because the family does live there but they have maintained a lot of the original architecture. If you go in the Spring, they say the gardens are in full bloom.

I didn't have any ghostly encounters but at one point I was standing in the middle of one of the rooms next to the wall. I kept feeling like I needed to move, like I was in the way of a door and someone would need to come in. There was no door behind me. During the tour of that room, we were told that it is rumored that one of the ghosts is known to walk through the wall there because possibly it is where the edge of the house/porch met up in the original design. I'm pretty skeptical about this stuff but it just seemed odd that I would feel this.

I definitely recommend touring the home.
