The hotel is great- no complaints at all. Just a preference I suppose. This is a larger convention style hotel - which is not always my preference. However the staff, grounds , and rooms are great, The hotel is located behind a business center and can be hard to find ( even with GPS)

This is a hotel that is trying to break out to a 5 star - but it just lacks in a few areas. Service is actually very good. And the location is one of the most upscale areas of Houston. But here is the deal --
1. Reservations - even though a call in advance on the day that I checked in to guarantee the type of room I needed (a walk in shower) -- I arrived at 5 pm to find that the room had not been saved for me. The manager stepped in during the checkin process and tried to satisfy me by saying they would let us stay in another room and they would get my requested room ready. What they did not say was that the room they were preparing was not the walkin shower - it just had a shower. (readers please note that because of knee surgery I have to request this type of room -- and even the Hampton Inns and the Holiday Inn's honor these reservation requests) .
Because of this serious error of not honoring the reservation, I have to mark them down.
Secondly, of special note is the fact that the bed frame had its sharp metal ends sticking out approximately 4 inches which scraped me several times during my three night stay. Thus another deduction.
The two restaurants are exceptional. The upscale one is bordering on four star. (I will write a separate review for Noe, their upscale restaurant).
Another negative - The rooms on the second floor are located very close to meeting rooms which makes for very noisy early morning times on weekdays. The hotel should make amends for this.
Parking - self-parking is an outrageous $16 per night - this in an area of town that does NOT have parking challenges. This is a profit margin maker for the hotel and should be changed. Valet parking is $24 per night., None of this is advertised in their rates.
Service is very good - the staff is friendly and helpful. The facility is clean and updated. There are no problems with is.

I have used this hotel off and on for about 15 years for business trips to Houston. It main appeal to me is its proximity to memorial park and probably one of the best running spots short of central park in NYC. In a city defined by highway noise and cars this hotel is tucked away in a green enclave that provides a quiet spot to call home base at the end of a long day. A car is an essential element and I always use the "self park" lot nearby to the lobby. It is now over $22 a night for self park which for a hotel guest is an excessive charge. The hotel rooms are basic but elegant. The bed was confortable and it was very quiet. The bathroom has a basic shower/tub that is very 80's but the vanity area is spacious and the lighting is good. Join the OMNI rewards program before you stay, even if you have never used an OMNI this will get you free WIFI and a free juice or coffee delivered to your room in the morning. The breakfast buffet was about $24 when tip is included but it was very good with omlets/eggs to order and the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. (it wasnt very busy when I was there so perhaps they were less stressed and provided more personal attention). In all the years I have stayed at the hotel the staff has been consistently friendly and helpful, in fact I would say that it is a hallmark of this hotel.

My husband and I have stayed at the Omni several times when visiting Houston. It's a beautiful property -- tucked away yet very convenient to the people and places we frequent. The rooms are well-appointed and clean, and the staff are helpful.

BUT, on Friday and Saturday nights, the lobby and affiliated bars and restaurants turn into a wild social scene. Parties, partiers, and hangers-on roam the public areas. Everyone is spectacularly dressed and out to have a good time. Lots of booze, lots of PDA. People literally falling out of cars. It's like being in a night club -- but with the lights on so you can see everything.

We've experienced this several times over the course of several years, so I think this is the norm. The most excellent valet staff keep things running for all guests. They could write a book about weekends in the Omni lobby!

Amazingly, none of the chaos has ever reached our room. The hallways are quiet and we've never heard unusual noise or activity once we head down our own hallway. But I've often been glad that my children were not with me to witness the scene in the lobby -- it's just so over-the-top.
