“? area”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

Hotel in ? area, several people loitering in parking lot (? homeless). My husband & son went nxt door to IHOP for breakfast & was approached twice for $ by panhandlers. Outside not as nice as web site shows. Rooms were roomy & clean. Great value, if you don't mind the ? area.

I picked this hotel because of the convenient location in relation to our route coming into Houston, and in relation to the event we came for. Its also in a decent part of town. The many good reviews here also convinced us to stay here.

My family stayed in Room 224 March 16-18th, 2012.

The good:
hotel is in a great, seemingly safe location
rooms and hotel in general seemed very clean
parking was plentiful
breakfast food was decent

The bad....
The rooms are pretty small, in every respect. We were supposed to have queen size beds, but these were full sized-beds - larger than a twin, but smaller than a queen - which is what I have at home. There is a sitting/desk area, but its not very spacious. The bathroom is pretty small as well. I would describe the rooms not as mini-suites, but micro-suites. The mini-fridge is pretty small (see attached photo) - the smallest one can get - good enough for one, maybe two people, but not large enough for a small family. The lighting needs an upgrade in wattage, or better placement of lights. Also need more or bigger wastebaskets - there is a standard one in the bathroom, and one tiny one in the room, that's it. The pillows were comfortable, but small.

Parking is plentiful, but the propery is fairly narrow, so getting into spaces can be tight if you have a larger vehicle. There was some exterior renovation (siding replacement/repair), so the construction vehicles made navigating the property that much more difficult.

Breakfast fare was decent, but the space used for breakfast is too small for the number of guests, and the items were not arranged very well to allow a free flow of guests - there seemed to be bottlenecks of guests waiting on or obtaining certain items. Our second morning we just skipped that circus and hit the IHOP next door - good choice.

Channel selection was poor, and several channels had a grainy picture, other "channels" weren't what the program was listed - they were preview channels, not the channel shown - Animal Planet was one of those phantom channels, if I recall correctly. There are really no channels for very young kids. There is Nick, but in the evening it showed Friends, which has adult banter - not the best for very young ears and minds. Another post from August 2011 listed a similar complaint, and the management response said that was being worked on, but here it is now 6-7 months later, and no change...

The hotel is a decent choice for 1-2 individuals per room, but if you have a small family, bear in mind that the rooms are just a tad bigger than a "standard" room, perhaps even the same size as a "standard" room. Bear in mind also that there is NO elevator should you need one.

Given the number in our party, I think we'll try another place on our next trip to Houston.

Room Tip: No elevator - if you have mobility issues, or trouble with lots of heavy luggage, get a first floor...

Dear Gideon_Krasmanic,

Thank you so much for the time and energy you spent to share this information about your recent stay at our hotel. We are grateful for your business and feedback. Your comments about lighting and the need for more wastebaskets were especially helpful. Your comments about the size of our beds prompted us to closely examine your room and various others. While the beds are in fact queen size, we are sorry they did not satisfy your family. I apologize that our complimentary breakfast was a bit congested during your stay. March is one of the busiest months for families traveling to Houston to visit our world famous Livestock Show & Rodeo. I will work with my staff to ensure a more efficient breakfast experience. Also, thank you for letting us know that some of our television channels were unavailable and did not meet your expectations. We realize that in the room TV channels are a large part of the value to travelers and for the same reason we upgraded our cable provider three months ago. Due to the severe weather in Houston the prior day, the signal needed to be readjusted and was an immediate priority to us once we were aware of issue. We sincerely thank you for staying with us and hope you will give us another chance on your next trip to Houston.

Sincerely,

Boris Manriquez

We needed space for 4 grown adults and a 12 year old. This place accomodated us nicely in one room with plenty of space! The staff was very helpful and friendly from maintenance, to maid service, to front desk (thanks, Denise!) and the wonderful breakfast with Paulette. Our daughter was on crutches and they gave us a convenient first floor room and allowed her extra time at check out. Kudos to the management! We took advantage of the fitness room and our room being equipped with refrigerator, sink, and microwave came in so handy. The price for all of this was unmatched for the other places we searched. We would definitely stay here again if visiting Houston with the whole family.

Room Tip: Two queen beds were great, pull out sofa was adequate but probably best for children and not adults...

We stayed here for our recent Spring Break. The hotel was conveniently located to all the places we wanted to visit and very reasonably priced in comparison to other places in the area. The room size was perfect. Enjoyed the convenience of the microwave and refridgerator in the room.
The breakfast was excellent. A wide variety of choices for anyone. They also provide a little wine and cheese reception in the evenings during the week which is a nice touch. After a day of visiting attractions and keeping up with the kids it was nice to have a glass of wine before dinner/bedtime.
The best part of this hotel though is the service. The folks are top notch. Always smiling, always accomodating and very helpful. This will remain at the top of my list of places to stay anytime we visit Houston.

I first just want to thank Mrs Paulette for the excellant breakfast every morning. I have stayed at many hotels which offer a continental breakfast, they are just as good as a 5 star hotel. Every morning we could expect to see smiling faces from housekeeping, maintanence to the front desk staff. The staff there were very friendly and helpful, especially the front desk staff. We will be returning again in April and telling our friends if they area to stay at the wonderful establishment. ;)

Thanks Fred & Kim
