“Best sushi in Houston, better then Kata or Uchi”

If you like traditional sushi this is most definitely the best place in Houston. The building looks super shady on the outside but when your large rolls emerge it is like a piece of heaven being imparted to you. They are open only a few hours per week which is irritating. The service is a bit unique as has been mentioned but you do not go to Chinatown for the service ever anyways, otherwise you will be disappointed. Kata and Uchi are good in their own way but do not compare to here. You will not find Uni or fancy fish here but you will find the best execution of sushi in Houston.

I continue to return frequently to Sushi Miyagi. I have not found better Sushi in Houston and have now tried many things on the menu. The restaurant is small, so come early to get a seat. Run by a husband and wife team alone, they define a family owned, small business. Closed on Mondays. I have never been for dinner, but understand that reservations are a must.

I had seen sushi miyagi on several best sushi lists, one of them on the national level, so even though it is quite off the beaten path my husband and I decided to take the drive on a day off. It was definitely worth it! They are open very odd hours on Friday, 3-7, so given the horrendous traffic of the city we got there shortly after 3. It was jammed! We got the last table. The waitress was extremely welcoming and helpful. The clientele was oddly quiet, but it had a very charming mish mosh atmosphere. We got the spicy scallop maki, rainbow maki and the Houston maki. All of it was incredible, but the scallop was my favorite. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Houston is full of high end glitzy Japanese restaurants but this place is a nice change of pace. It is run almost entirely by a husband and wife team. It is a small and quite restaurant and is a very relaxing place to have some basic but authentic sushi. The fish is high quality and they have many traditional Japanese dishes as well.
