I recently went on this evening tour with a few friends and was really looking forward to seeing the sights of Houston. In our group we had some experienced Segway riders and some others who were first timers. It did not start well when we really struggled to find where it started from. Even though the tickets said the Wortham Centre once we arrived there wasn't a sign or anything to tell us where to go. A number of us ended up waiting out the front which was lucky we were in the right place. Their van should have had a sign on front of it and that would have made it easier.
Unlike other Segway tours I have done where there is an extensive training session, this one pretty much loaded you up and away you were going. This worked for the experienced riders but it took the whole two hours before one lady lost her "death grip" of the Segway and at no stage did she look comfortable. Who knows what sights she actually saw!
The guy who seemed to be in charge and ran the 'training' never properly introduced himself and was not a good advertisement for Houston. Fortunately we were split away from him and went with a younger guy who lacked experience but was friendly enough.
Once we were going however the sights of Houston were impressive. There are so many little parks and green areas below all the freeways that you would never know about. It was a good way of covering a large area which would have been prohibitive in the hot Houston weather. There were a few local facts but not like what you would hear on a better run Segway tour. It is more about what you can see for yourself and the fun of riding a Segaway rather than a cultural / learning experience.
Overall, I would only recommend this to those who are experienced on Segways or those who are very adventurous.
