Owner description: Opera house in Houston that features opera presentations throughout the year.

The Houston Grand Opera is a leading and creative company that develops carefully planned and beautifully executed operas. it also prides itself with sponsoring new artists and commissioning newly written operas at least once a year. Many of the star performances of the last 20 years were premiered in Houston: Florencia en el Amazonas, Nixon in China, Cold Sassy Tree, and many others. The orchestra is first class and HGO has its own school for singers, from which many of the top opera singers of the 21st century have arisen. It is a dynamic, progressive company with much to offer to the world of opera. We recently enjoyed an outstanding production of Faust, with a dramatic finale that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

This is one of my in-laws' favorite places to go for Opera performances. They gifted us with tickets to a beautiful production of Carousel. The theatre itself was stunning with very helpful staff, and the production was high quality with great design, performance, and choreography. I would love to come back for another performance because I know that no matter what it will be, it will be fantastic.

Trying to expose children to different activities and events. I was surprised they enjoy classical musical & request it to sleep instead of a bedtime story. They seem to be having fun in violin classes hmmm let's see how they enjoy going to an opera. Excitement across their face. We read the summary of story behind Siegfried to kids so have an idea before hand in case they didn't like or understand. It was great atmosphere. The kids enjoyed reading across the stage what happening in each performance and were wowed by all the instruments playing at same time. Variety of souvenirs sold at intermission not only of characters but from Rossini DVDs to children books for example Le Petite Prince/French, El Principito/Spanish, etc.. they were as excited as mommy.

HGO is a world class opera company. It is far better than San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Santa Fe, and even Toronto. The opera hall has fantastic acoustics, a big stage, and comfortable seats. This is worth a special trip.

Being Opera fans we have been lucky enough to visit a number of Performance Venues in Europe and the USA. Therefore whilst staying in the City we made sure to visit the HGO. The building is truly impressive and arriving at the main entrance and ascending the elevator added to our experience. Our appreciation of the premier of a new work, was enhanced by a very helpful pre performance talk and the excellent production plus the quality of the Opera itself made for a memorable evening. Mention must also be made of the high quality of the front of house staff who made us very welcome, and were clearly involved with production.
