This place is so nostalgic! Just walk in and the aroma of BBQ hits you in the face. It smells so good and you can tell it has been here for a while. The first bite lets you know that this is what BBQ is supposed to taste like. They still serve the BBQ on red butcher paper. The sauce is served on the side which is how I like it. Gerald Birkelbach and his staff do a great job every single day!

This place has been making BBQ in the back of the store for maybe 75 years. The smell is divine when you walk in. But when you get to the back and order the meat your mouth starts to water before you are served! Great taste and old timer recipes make for some terrific BBQ. It still comes on butcher paper with bread pickles and onion. This place can't be beat!

What a find. City Market – Giddings is a really great stop that had a very authentic atmosphere full of locals enjoying some very good BBQ. Unlike many of my stops that were accustomed to seeing BBQ Road Trip Tourists I got some strange looks as I took pictures of the venue and my food. The brisket and sausage were both very good examples with ample smoke and bark on the tender brisket. The rib offering was outstanding and among the best of the trip. A nice offering of pretty standard sauce that is served warn in a Styrofoam cup. I did learn not to shake the large bottle of vinegar as there is a small hole in the top of the lid. Overall Score: 4.0 Stars (perhaps 4.25 since it was as good as Luling City Market slightly better overall than Kruez)

All of the other reviews are spot-on. This place is like a Barbecue Museum. Everything here is very old, very worn, and absolutely fantastic! Great barbecue served on butcher paper. Nothing could be simpler. Can't stress this part enough - get there EARLY or they will sell out of many specialty cuts. If you're going after 2 or 3:00, there won't be much left.

As soon as you walk in, you know this place is authentic. Smoky atmosphere, great bbq and of course nothing fancy. Get there early for lunch as the different cuts will sell out. The pork ribs are excellent. City Market isn't open on Sundays.
