We stayed here as a family of four in one room for four nights prior to taking a cruise from Galveston.
Okay, so the hotel structure could do with a little TLC (but this is a year after the hurricane that swept through Galveston, to be fair), but the location and staff more than made up for it. Proper Texan hospitality from the cleaning staff to management. The Bell Captain was superb - she couldn't do enough for you.
Rooms were clean and well-equipped and the beds were comfortable. We didn't eat at the hotel, but I believe the food is good.
The pool area was great - very clean and well-kept; a great respite for the August heat. In the bar next to the pool and sometimes outside, poolside, there is live entertainment some afternoons and in the evening.
There are restaurants nearby to suit all budgets and a good supermarket. Views from the hotel are unobstructed out to the Gulf. The trolley is easy enough to catch up and down the front and up to the Strand - well worth a visit and for next to nothing, too.
I would definitely stay here again. To me, the staff made it.
It's also worth noting that there is also a free shuttle to the cruise terminal, which really helped.More
