Great place with a great staff !!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Aug 2024
My family and friends had a delightful time. I was a little hesitant at first because of a few reviews. I was greeted by Tae at the front desk whom was amazing on getting us the right rooms for my family to be together. She is an outstanding host who provided us with all the great local restaurants with best prices. Don’t get me wrong, the other staff members were also great but she really stood out. swim up bar was a great place to relax and have fun. But was more amazing is the beach was right across the street with beautiful views each morning. The only downside was that one of the elevators were down and sometimes it was a little wait but not bad at all. Great place and fun staff !!!!!

This review has a lot of variables - some that were absolutely addressable and some not easily done.

My husband was here on a work trip and we made it a family trip.

First impressions: beautiful courtyard, nice pool, no hot tub, pool bar was pretty cheesy for a Hilton hotel, hotel was clearly having work done, good balconies with beach view.

The elevator smelled like urine and immediately we had to notify someone. They did tend to it.

We slept well. The blackout blind was ideal. There really didn’t seem to be much street noise but it rained the whole time we were there. It took us an exercise in futility to realize the thermostat on the wall was not connected to the thermostat on the unit. The entry light went out on day 2. The tv had to be changed out (see pics) on day 1 because of spots. Nice shower with Crabtree & Evelyn but no bath (not good for little ones).

As far as the front staff - it was a crapshoot. You might get someone who was super cheery and helpful, you might get a guy sitting in the libby on his phone. Lobby coffee service - I’ve never seen it shut down in a Hilton but every day at noon there was NO coffee in the lobby. There is coffee in your room, along with a fridge - no microwave.

The restaurant. We ate breakfast twice. One server really had her act together. The others not so much. Hear me out - they’re essentially making your plate for you that you WOULD have made yourself at a continental and then charging you for it and their service. Our first server knew how to present it all as if it had all been done at one time and it clearly wasn’t her first rodeo. The next waitress brought out each item one thing at a time - including my waffle…then five minutes later some chopped up berries that were supposed to be on my waffle only now your was a cold $14 waffle. She brought my son toast that had mold on it. They can charge you for coffee or you can just grab some in the lobby. It’s poorly executed.

There are bikes you can borrow that my husband and son enjoyed. It was clean.

I dont know. I hate leaving reviews that are just “meh” but that’s what this was. I wouldn’t recommend it but I didn’t hate it. A lot of that, though, is because I’m giving a lot of grace because there was a hurricane a few weeks prior.

Room tip: Parking near the front is very limited. The location is fairly nice being near Miller’s restaurant and not far from the pier, right across

I was very apprehensive when I read the reviews for this older hotel on Galveston's seawall. But we had a delightful two day stay. The location was unbeatable, directly across from the beach just up from the historic pleasure pier and some of the best casual dining in Galveston. The room was impeccably clean, the AC worked like a charm without being noisy, the bed was first rate, as were the towels and toiletries (Crabtree and Evelyn). Yes, the room decor was older, and being on the seafront you could see the wear on the railings of the balcony paint. But if what you are looking for is clean, comfortable, and safe on the sea wall, it is hard to top this older hotel, especially for the price. The service at the front desk on check-in and check-out was low key, but polite and professional. We were sent a text by the front desk agent, Emanuel , after checking in to inquire if we needed anything and once a day while we were staying there. We did not eat there, but we made good use of the mini fridge and coffee maker during our stay. Yes, you do pay for parking, but that is true for everywhere on the Seawall, and the convenience made up for the modest charge per night. We really did not have the experience of the recent negative reviews of this very nice older sea front hotel.

Booked this hotel with Hilton app and received a pick your room. Paid for a view of ocean and pool. If you pick your room on the app screenshot it!
We arrived to them putting us in a different room no pool view. Went down to tell them and they had no idea about what we picked and was told there was no rooms available over the pool. I couldn’t find any email or text with the room we picked! But then the gentleman told me he would be right back as I was standing at the desk, to go help a family load a cart from their car. Walk by me with full cart to get on elevator and take all their suitcases to their room. Ok??

Another kind man came up and asked if I needed help. I told him what was going on and he said he had a room available….strange as the other guy said he didn’t.

Room was not bad as I see some of the other reviews. I can see why this happens as I was down in lobby and a lady came up and said they wanted to stay an extra day in the same room. She was told to come back in the morning and they would fix it. So whoever booked that room would be kicked out when they arrived! So be aware! Rooms starting at low numbers may not have pool views. High numbers are over pool.

We are Hilton members and had to ask for the water. Never offered cookies that are in a warming drawer behind counter. No big deal but then We did finally ask for some the next day when elevator broke! We were on the 5th floor! It was a lot of fun carrying down our luggage when we checked out! I understand things happen. Felt bad for the older couple in their 90’s there with walkers celebrating their anniversary! Not sure how they got down!

Only breakfast is served in hotel restaurant, not free. We took a walk in the am and there is a Wendy’s not too far that has much cheaper breakfast. We had lunch while hanging by the pool from Longboard. We loved being able to swim up to the bar and order drinks and lunch.

There is a small gift shop right outside hotel on the street or you can walk down to Murdocks on seawall and continue walking to a pleasure Pier or Bubba Gumps.

Room tip: Parking is $15.00 a day. parking in back with 2 doors Which should be key access but were unlocked. Beach chair/umbrella rentals on beach

The Doubletree hotel Galveston was the worst hotel I ever stayed in. The entire hotel needs to be renovated. The bathroom was not clean. The shower had mold and mildew growing in the grout and on tiles. The baseboards in the bathroom and the hotel room were filthy. It was obvious the bathroom floor had not been mopped. There was hair in the corner of the bathroom floor. One of the wash clothes had mascara on it from the previous guest. The chrome wire corner soap rack had mildew and rust all over it. The bottle of hair conditioner in the shower was empty.

The beds in the room need new mattresses.

The tv had an image of 24 dots burned in it. We could barely see the program for the permanent grid of circles.

The entire room needed to be dusted. The walls needed to be painted. The carpet needed to be vacuumed. There was sand on the carpet. The carpet was worn out and needed to be replaced.

The balcony was another scary place. The entire door frame was rusted. If you accidentally touched it, you can get rusty metal slivers in your hand. The balcony door handle inside the room was installed backwards. The push button lock was installed outside.on the balcony. The key to the push button lock was inside the hotel room. The only way to lock the balcony door is from inside the hotel room with the deadbolt. The door had to be forced closed in order to lock the deadbolt.

The elevator had many problems. Every time the elevator traveled to the third floor, it would vibrate and shake violently until it passed the third floor. It didn’t matter if the elevator was ascending or descending.

The outside door next to the parking lot did not stay closed, so anyone can enter the hotel without a room key. Security does seem to matter. Employees walked past the open door numerous times and made no attempt to close it.

I guarantee the manager of this hotel has not inspected the rooms this year. It is obvious there is no maintenance being done in the facility. Housekeeping is only doing the bare minimum. No one is checking to see if the rooms are being cleaned.

The best part of the Doubletree in Galveston was the cookies.

We chose the Doubletree hotel because we wanted a nice hotel to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We spent approximately six hundred dollars for a two night stay. It was definitely a memorable stay but not in a good way. Guest sastisfaction is not a priority.

Whatever you do, don’t stay in room 508. I am pretty sure, the Galveston jail is cleaner than the Doubletree hotel in Galveston.

Room tip: Pick any other hotel than the Doubletree! You will be dry disappoint in the Doubletree facility.

The service is terrible, I forgot 2 pairs of sunglasses in the room, I had not left the hotel even when I asked and a man at the reception, who practically did not even want to look at me, told me that there was nothing left. In my personal experience, they discriminate against Latinos, the man who was at the reception today 5/27/2024 around 1pm left me standing without a response, the service was horrible from him.

Room tip: It is very very expensive for what it is. and if a man at the reception assists them, even worse
