“Nice overnight stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2012

My wife and I along with our 8yr old daughter stayed at this hotel for an overnight stay. A neighbor friend of ours took care of our rm as well as her's via priceline. Was a very good name your own price deal. It is true it's a bit of a ways from the beach & Seawall Blvd, but it was in walking distance to Schlitterbahn waterpark. Moody Gardens is also very convenient as well. Breakfast was average with lots of cereal and pastries. Did the mini golf course & was lots of fun. Our room was in the newer section & was good. I'd certainly give a good rating for this place. Was certainly worth our friend using priceline & the name your own price tool.

Room Tip: Newer section has covered parking

We stayed one night pre-cruise. We wanted fairly inexpensive and this definitely fit the enter into a small room with a small table, 2 chairs and a loveseat. There is also a small frig (ours didn't work). The bathroom is an interesting set up: when you walk in, the sink is on one side, and the bathtub/shower is directly across from the sink. Through another door is the toilet. Again, pretty old but clean. The beds were not comfortable but there have actually been worse in hotels. There is a mini-golf course at the front of the hotel - free to guest. Kids really seem to like it. There is also a pool, but we didn't use it. The provided breakfast is all carbs - donuts, toast, bagels, muffins (I think), and a machine that plops out 2 pancakes in 3 minutes (never seen that one before). This property is not on the beach, Seawall Blvd, or even within walking distance of either. They do have a free shuttle to the cruise port, but it's a free for all - we didn't get to the ship until 2:30. You can leave your car for free at the hotel during the cruise and they said they had a shuttle. After the 1st shuttle experience, we took a taxi back. Very budget/basic, but beat paying $175 I guess.

This was an excellant hotel. The rooms very extra large, the pool was fine and the minature golf was very great for the kids. We stayed here 2 days before a cruise and left our vehicle parked in a covered car port. The staff were great and helpful, the breakfast was average and there was a free shuttle to and from the cruise port. We will stay here again if we ever cruise out of the area. We also used the free hot spot.

I booked this hotel as the reviews seemed quite good. I was not expecting 5 star but my room was definetly sub par. I also booked 7 months in advance and asked for queen beds as my 16 year old son is over 6 ft tall and also requested non smoking. We had prepaid for the room so when we had some flight problems I called to let the hotel know that we would still be arriving but would be late. When we arrived we were put in the "Newer back section". The room smelled like someone had a huge party and reeked of stale smoke and bad air freshener. The room was huge and had a small table and fridge. It was the handicapped room so did not have a tub but a walk in shower stall. The bathroom seemed fairly clean but the carpet had quite a few large stains so I had the family keep shoes on at all times. We also didn't get queen beds (which we paid for). We were extremely tired after a long day and just chose to just sleep and not worry about it as it was only for 1 night. When we went down for breakfast at about 10:15 they were closing. I asked for a least a bagel was told that breakfast was finished. I finally was able to get some juice for the kids. I asked at the front desk where the closest convienience store would be and was told "I think there is one that way". We decided just to hop on the shuttle and head for the ship and have a meal there. They took our name for the shuttle and were told to wait out front. After about 1/2 an hour we asked when the shuttle should get there were told they run continually. We waited another 15 mins and when one came he told everyone that was waiting that he was no longer transferring to the ship and was doing the Moody Gardens run. Ok there was now about 25 of us waiting and the front desk would not call cabs as there was too many of us. They chose to hand each family a phone # for a cab so we could call ourselves. This hotel is definetly cheap and has a good mini golf course but I sure didn't have the same rooms or experience that others have talked about.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

Location__This hotel is not far from the Lonestar Flight Museum & Schlitterbahn - great idea for families! It's about a 5-minute drive to the beach (only because of the traffic lights); nice to be away from the congestion of Seawall Blvd!

Property__Friends had recommended Inn at the Waterpark as a pre-cruise hotel. It has a clubhouse, which we rented to use for a pre-cruise gathering - a nice space. The property even features free mini-golf, which we didn't get a chance to use last time but will next time. It's a pretty little setting for not being "at the beach."

For Cruisers__Two big things our group always looks for in a hotel: transport to the cruise terminal & parking for cars (many of us drive in). Inn at the Waterpark provides both, and the shuttle is free. I also found out (by calling) that you can book at the prepaid/nonrefundable/advance rate of $57.15, and still leave your car there!

Parking/Security__We had a double-queen room in the newer building. This building offered covered parking with a secure elevator lobby that made it easy to get the luggage upstairs. The "garage" was well-lit and felt safe - my husband is very big on security, and he highly approved. It also provided shelter from a windy day as we walked over to have breakfast in the main building.

Room__We were on the 3rd floor of 4. Room was quite spacious, even with 2 beds. Coffee maker (coffee, tea, sugar & creamer), microwave and mini-fridge set up by a small table & 2 chairs made a nice little eating area. The bathroom had vanity, toilet & shower - average size for a hotel, but there was a bonus of a second vanity outside the bathroom, opposite the closet (average size).

My husband & I each took a bed - it's more comfortable for his 6'2" frame when the bed is queen-sized. We had plenty of space for books, sound machine, etc. on the end table, and his CPAP fit well on the armchair by his bed. Other amenities include a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, long dresser, desk & chair. Note: We slept very well in those beds, which is saying a lot from a couple who has a TempurPedic!

The only negative was the noise from above (which was mentioned in previous reviews). Apparently, they forgot to put soundproofing between the floors because we heard footsteps and conversations. We use a sound machine, so were able to block that when we slept.

Service__When we arrived, the book of local attractions, TV channels, etc. was missing. Also, the TV picture was snowy. I called the front desk & a maintenance man was there is less than 5 minutes. He found out that someone had pushed a button somewhere in back (we never would've found it!) that disconnected the TV from the satellite service, and it was fixed. The front desk immediately made us copies of the TV channel list so we'd have that - they had to make up another book for the room, and it wouldn't be ready while we were there. The staff was always courteous, always available - unlike some "better class" hotels I've stayed in.

Breakfast (free)__Unlike a lot of hotels in Galveston, Inn at the Waterpark had a dedicated staff member for the breakfast. She kept everything well-stocked, the tables cleared, and the area clean. She was also helpful with children who couldn't reach and guests too bleary-eyed to see where things were. :) Offerings were pancakes (neat machine to make them!), cereal, bagels, muffins, pastries, toast, juices & coffee. Although the hotel was packed with cruisers & other groups, there always seemed to be room in the eating area. Tables are for 2 & 4, but easy to move together.

Cleanliness__I didn't find anything to complain about at Inn at the Waterpark - it even smelled clean. Our room was spotless.

Conclusion__This is a clean, spacious, well-run property with a lot to offer... and great for pre-cruising!

Room Tip: In the new building, you will be able to hear a lot from rooms above - ask for the top floor.
