but it turned out to just be so-so.
:(
The oysters on the half shell were good, not gritty, and the fried shrimp ok, but it was very average after that. The side of Cole slaw covered the whole plate sogging out the shrimp, and it had no taste. Like eating raw chopped cabbage. The service was kind of half hearted too. :(

As per the reviews, there were lineups to get into the restaurant but not quite certain if the wait was worth it. The food was salty and really not much better than average and don't order steak here. Waitress made a mistake on our order which we didn’t have time for her to correct. Perhaps the best New Orleans taste in downtown Galveston but a far cry from the real thing.

We had shrimp po boy and a salad. Both were excellent... Out friends had crab cakes... Both equally great... Will return someday when we visit Galveston again.

I am a local and have tried Black Pearl three times since opening, most recently with my parents. I always have high hopes but they just don’t seem to get it right. I had an average oyster poboy. My dad had the gumbo which is definitely not a reorder. The raw oysters were meh. And why on earth would a seafood restaurant in Galveston serve tilapia?
