On a recent trip to San Antonio, we rented a car for a day and drove to Fredericksburg for their wine tour. We stopped in at 3 with Woodrose and Grape Creek being our favorites. Woodrose is fairly new and has a modern look to it and the wine was great. The owner was even serving that day, calm as can be for it was quite busy, and still took the time to talk with us and answer questions. How fun that it turned out he was from our own state! Grape Creek was a wonderful experience. They have a tram tour and offer tasting from barrels with wine in mid process, as well as the full tasting afterward. While this is a very large winery with multiple tasting rooms, we ended up being on a tour with just us and one other couple. Perhaps that was a rare treat for the guide, too, as she treated us very special and we had our own tasting session just with her. All in all a great thing to do in that area of Texas. While they all make very good wine, one thing to ask if you can't fly any bottles home, they do not ship to many states and only 1 of the wineries was able to ship an order home for us.
