While visiting San Antonio, we made a point of visiting Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg. It a little over an hour north of San Antonio and worth the drive. We enjoy hiking and wanted to climb to the top of the rock. It may look daunting from the bottom; but, it's like walking up a very steep hill. It took us about an hour up and down; but, we were taking pictures along the way. After a picnic lunch, we walked around the base of the rock on several marked trails. We were fortunate to have visited in late April; because, all of the wildflowers and cactus flowers were in bloom. It's a beautiful place.
We hiked up and down Enchanted Rock in less than an hour. We stayed and admired the scenery at the top. It was a fun place to explore. There are lots of trails but our time didn't allow us to hike around the bottom of the rock. It's steep at the top but if you take your time, you can do it!
After many years we finally hiked up the rock. Two years ago we hiked up the rock along with our 2 Jack Russell's. It was well worth the hike. We have learned since them dogs are no longer allowed. Because people don't pick up after them pets. We do and i don't understand why they don't. We also have gone there by bicycle. Spring break and holidays are tough there. The parking lot fills up fast. The biggest disappointment is however is how "mean" the park rangers are there. A small parking lot fills fast and they have a tough job. Bikes don't take up a lot of room but they won't let us in. We have learned "NOT" to go there on weekends of holidays.
We drove out to see this site but were surprised to see that there was a $7.00 charge per person to go in. It is just a large rock in the middle of nowhere. The drive to get there was nice.
This is a very beautiful place words can't explain th beauty of the enchanted rock. I love the nature and outdoor activity involved.
The drive to Enchanted Rock is awesome, beautiful views, The park itself is very nice and very popular. The rangers were very helpful. This is a major hiking/climbing site. But you can enjoy the park without hiking.
