In their latest exhibit, the Nasher Sculpture Center juxtaposes a collection of human-hewn hand axes and figure stones, some as old as 1.4 million years, with modern sculptures that have a prehistoric sentiment. It works surprisingly well. I’ve seen prehistoric pieces only in museums, but Nasher elevates the hand axes and figure stones as art. This interesting perspective highlights the commonalities between our distant ancestors and us.

Unlike many museums I’ve visited, everything Nasher exhibits is in the best viewing light. I really appreciated being able to see the nuance in these prehistoric works.

This exhibit runs through April 28. Don’t miss it!

We went to Dallas to see their hand axe exhibit. Every single person at the Nasher (including the gift store people) is passionated, charming and cool. Eat at the wonderful cafe! Stroll the gardens, an oasis away in downtown, marvel at the beauty and grace that is this little jewel of a museum. Best thing in Dallas if you like art.

The sculpture garden has some of the greats-Richard Sera, Picasso, Henry Moore- but also some people I did not know about but loved their work ( several women sculptors as well like Mailloll).
It is beautiful to boot, with many fountains and places to sit and think. It was winter when I was there but I think it will be even more wonderful when the trees leaf out and make a bower over the walkways. Good exhibits inside as well. And a lovely and touching movie on the married couple who collected modern sculpture and created this collection in town and even in their shopping center.

We lucked out and came on Target Free Day, our entrance fee was waived. There were also a lot of young school aged children there looking and learning. It was nice, warm, sunny afternoon.
Quite a nice collection of sculpture. Outdoor area with larger sculpture and water features. Cafe with a decent menu. ** one vegan item **
