John Paul Gaultier exhibit was great. The museum is nice, the arts district has come a long way. You can make a nice weekend in the area.

“DMA”

Love taking kids here on family days. The whole museum is made family friendly. Great children's area- my kids would go just to hang out there and make the art project du jour.

“Some nice surprises”
Reviewed 3 February 2012

It's a little confusing to navigate, so a map is recommended for your first visit. We have visited for some special exhibitions and have not been disappointed! The European art section is really nice, as well as the Wendy and Emery Reves Collection. The only disappointment in the museum lies in the museum shop. It is horrible. Yes, there are art books to be found but the general merchandise assortment is unfocussed and boring. And the postcard selection for current exhibits is awful. One of the best things about visiting a wonderful museum for us is to buy a postcard to remember a special exhibit or painting, sculpture, etc. And here, you find nothing to represent what they have on display. Very sad. The restaurant is good, however, and reasonably priced.

“Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit - Drop everything and Go!”
Reviewed 3 February 2012

I wasn't too sure about a fashion exhitbit however was pleasantly surprised when I found it was not just an endless display of headless manaquins draped in amazing clothes. Take the time to just stand and listen as the exhibit is all sensory, not just visual, but auditory as well. Be sure to allow time to enjoy the exhibit of the movies that Gaultier fashions were included. It made me laugh that I had seen almost all of them and of course who knew that thte bizarre fashions were Gaultier. The movie clips are in the final room so don't rush thru or you will miss some of the the favorite designs.
A great hour or so to enjoy some fashion history, a browse of the gift shop and a coffee in the cafeteria. Exhibit is $16/adult but well worth the time.

Goo early and walk the Arts district it has really grown and there are so many venues to explore other than just the DMOA. Go for it and make a day of it. I belive the Free night is first Tuesday? Call them to confirm.
