We were met by Andre at the road to the cottage, which is a fairly uneven dirt road, about 4km to the site. It was all we had hoped for, on a hill overlooking other hills to the sun reflecting off the distant ocean amidst cork trees. Andre and his father have done a marvellous job in building and decorating the place with interesting artifacts, and were responsible for the best equipped kitchen we experienced in our Portuguese rentals. The four of us love cooking and it was what we had planned for time in this area. The place is powered by wind and solar and well designed based on our useage. The nearby town of Melides was perfect for supplies and a local market. There was plenty of dry hardwood for the fireplace which was used to warm up our evenings(March) and a small propane heater to warm up the rooms before bed. The fireplace was a bit smoky on startup but improved with a bit of air flow. We had one day of solid rain and we found the cottage perfect size for sitting comfortably reading, or around the kitchen table for card games. It is also a great location for exploring the nearby coast - Lagoon and St. Andre Beach, and some hiking south of Porto Corvo.
