Fantastic scenery during the drive up from Carlton-in-Cleveland! Found the cottage with no problem and arrived to an enthusiastic welcome. Clearly Jean is experienced in dealing with strangers and imparting all the essential and useful info. The cottage is very nice. The kitchen is small but it had everything we needed, the bathroom was very good with a decent shower, and the bedroom had all the storage you'd need and a decent bed. The following is not a criticism, just an observation: no mobile phone signal and the wi-fi was unreliable. Not a problem for us but if we'd have been staying with our two teenagers, it would have been a problem. I thought the grassed areas around the cottages were due a mow and a bit of a tidy and on Sunday..... out came the mower! We left on Sunday afternoon as we had to get back to work though we booked until Monday. That wasn't due to any problem but planned so we didn't have to leave by 10. We would certainly return for another weekend stay.
The cottage is situated down a country lane on the owners' property, although has a peaceful and private setting. Jean welcomed us, lit the fire on our arrival and gave us an overview of services, local amenities and places of interest. The little touches of wild flowers on the table, tea, coffee, milk and shortbread were most welcoming. The cottage adjoins the countryside, giving easy access to the open Moor and walks of choice, with a local pub close by offering good food and beers. Nearby Helmsley is well worth a visit. Riveaulx Abbey and the Walled Garden made for a gorgeous day out. Thank you! We had a beautiful, relaxing week in a well equipped, cosy, clean cottage.
Peaceful tranquil just perfect.smiles all round. Had a lovely time. The chickens greeted is every morning and the babbling Brook was a constant backdrop
This little cottage is a gem, so is the owner. We received a personal welcome on arrival followed by an introduction to the cottage and a demonstration into the use of the log burner etc. There was milk in the fridge and flowers on the table, we wanted for nothing, we were even advised of local attractions. We would have no hesitation in recommending Beck Cottage for a stay, just don't book the weeks we want because we will return !
We have stayed at beck cottage on many occasions over the last 10 years, it's a lovely quiet romantic location,
The owner Mrs Bowes and her husband are lovely friendly people and nothing is to much trouble for them
The cottage is small and cozy with a lovely wood burner fire, the cottage is equipt with all you need ,
The location of the cottage is remote but surrounded by beautiful countryside
The moors are on doorstep with Whitby been 50 mins away Pickering 30 mins away with the steam railway
I would highly recommend this place to chill and unwind
