Eating on the road can be a real adventure sometimes... We've been on the road in our RV for about four months and just got settled in to our latest RV campground near New Braunfels, Texas. We got to chatting with our neighbors in the next site over and they were nice enough to give us the 4-1-1 on the best local breakfast hangout. That would be "Granny D's"...

Granny D's was fairly packed. The signage tells you to seat yourself, so we quickly found an open table that was to our liking and made ourselves at home. Our behinds had barely settled in the chairs when our server appeared out of nowhere with a hand full of menus and a quick hello, plopped the them on the table and was off getting our drink orders.

This is Texas. Jeans and such are the uniform of the day, and we guessed any place with a name that has "Granny" in it is going to forego some formalities but serve up a great country breakfast. We put that to the test... And we were right. Our server was energetic and attentive but even with all her Texas charm, it was still a "what can I gitcha" kind of place... No frills or fluff... Just busy and straight to the point.

Our server quickly brought us our coffees and took our breakfast orders. My wife and I each ordered up "Eggs and Pancakes", a combo breakfast of eggs cooked to order, bacon or sausage, hash browns or home fries, and a pancake. The food came up quickly for as busy as it was. The portions are generous and the food was home-cooked delicious. The bacon was excellent and the home fries, real diced potatoes, onions and peppers, grilled just so, were great. But oh, that pancake... WOW... as big as the biggest dinner plate and about 3/4" thick, it looked more like an edible frisbee. It was awesome.

The price was reasonable... 2 coffees and 2 excellent breakfasts, big enough to make you skip lunch, all for about $25, tip included. We highly recommend Granny D's... We will be eating there again.

4 adults and two kids (age 5 and 6).

Got seated quickly - but after that, things were average - at best.

Service was slow and server seemed to alternate between being bored and somewhat displeased that she was working.

Fries came out tired looking and cold.

We get that New Braunfels is a small town - but if this is a “local favorite” as other reviews indicate, the locals need to try other places.

Very yummy. Good home cooking. Everything we had you could tell was homemade, nothing frozen. Atmosphere was where the locals ate, which is my favorite.

Like always, we trusted the Trip Advisor reviews when we picked out our breakfast spot. To top it off, the overflow parking lot was a good indicator too. We decided to skip out on our mundane hotel free breakfast and go for something heartier.

Granny D's did not disappoint. My son loved his chicken and waffles. I went for the big dam breakfast. It was all delicious, and I couldn't finish. The leftovers were my son's lunch for our trip back home.

Service was awesome, wait time given was accurate (and worth it!).
