Review of Mr Morce

Mr Morce
Ranked #13 of 42 Restaurants in Sorrento
Price range: US$ 7 - US$ 43
Description: A bright, breezy, and just a little cheeky, eatery and bar for visitors and locals to enjoy! Sourcing local wines, succulents and produce, Mr Morce is open from 8am till late Wednesday to Sunday. Why Mr Morce ? Staying with the local heritage and the fact that we are locals, we wanted to embrace a theme around part of our historic building. After some significant research we found that Mr George Morce was perfect to create our restaurant and we engaged Samantha Eades Design & Ewert Leaf to bring the interiors to life. Mr Morce was a local, and adored, Sorrento identity in the late 1800's. As the local stonemason specialising in the use of limestone, George contributed to the building of many recognisable landmarks in Sorrento. Notably, his handy work can be seen in the original Sorrento Police station of which he became a regular guest after many joyous visits to the Sorrento Hotel! He also worked on the Koonya, the Atheneuem Theatre and ‘Eastcliffe’ property. Our bar and indoor/outdoor fireplace, built from local limestone, has been constructed in recognition of his valuable contribution to the local architecture. Mr Morce brings together local young yet well experienced talent from the Pensinsula with our chef Tom Anderson and Manager Ben Annison. Tom’s passion on a plate and culinary expertise is enjoyed in our Australian cuisine menu. This has been influenced by his extensive travel throughout Japan, South America and Europe. Tom is big on using natural produce that grows on the peninsula like succulents and salt bush. With over 20 years experience in the industry, Ben’s desire for optimum service and aim to create the best Sorrento dining experience for you is felt the minute you walk into the bright, light and airy restaurant. Ben and his team will ensure you receive the best attention whether you are enjoy our Healthy start Breakfast, relaxed lunch or dinner menu, or wish to pop in for a drink and snack. Family friendly and locally focused is our aim.

First Visit to Mr. Morce….went on a Wednesday night so it was a cold quite night. The atmosphere in the room whilst quite yet was welcoming, with a beautiful roaring open fire. The attire of the staff and attentiveness was first rate. Nice to see quality local wines on the list. The food came out in a nice easy pace and the flavours in my wife's meal and mine were not to be faulted …...first rate! as a local, we will visit again......Keep up the good work Mr. Morce!!

The coffee was good and I really liked the eggs I ordered.

Service was a bit slow but not a major problem as I we weren't in any particular hurry. Not a cheap place for breakfast,

Would I go back? I was not particularly impressed and would probably try somewhere else in Sorrento.

Appreciate your feedback, we are working hard to train our young staff to deal with such situations. We use amazing local fresh produce, and where possible make everything from scratch, which is reflected in the quality of food.

This place used to be awesome for breakfast, but after multiple times
Returning the manager obviously doesn’t care about the customer, slow service and food once again.

Hi, I can assure you that the manager does care and puts in an extreme amount of time and effort to deliver good service. We apologise for your experience and understand there are many factors that relate and are working hard to deliver. Thanks

It's our adult family long weekend away in a new place with no perspective on where to go or whats good. But my sis - in - law had heard that Mr Morce was worth a visit and we went straight from the airport after a long drive in congested long weekend traffic. Open the door and the fitout is relatively new and fresh, well spaced tables and an open fire!! Got us in one. Well presented staff seat us not too near the fire...nice chat and he says "would you like a drink first, water or something else?" Both PLEASE!!! He gets the water as we look at the drinks list, takes our drinks order and says he'll be back to go through the menu with us. Drinks arrive, menu explained, says "please let me know when you're ready to order" and attends other patrons. This guy is very good and obvious takes pride ion his work and presentation. We get his attention and arrives when he has finished his other work piece, orders taken and we sit back and enjoy the fire and the room. I'm not going into detail with what we ordered and the quality of the cook and presentation other than to say it is very...very good. I bothered to lookup (later) that Tom Anderson is the chef who I believe was head chef at Port Phillip Estate (thats our lunch for tomorrow) and his kitchen is doing a great job. We finish, we pay...we are happy.

Thank you Peter for your kind words. The head chef is actually Ryan James who worked at Port Phillip, the head chef of Port Phillip is Stuart Deller.

The two times I visited Mr Morce could not have been more different. The first time we enjoyed a delicious Smashed Avocado, and I have to say it was one of the best and most tastiest I have ever tried.

We returned two weeks later and ordered two smoothies, it had been fifteen minutes and we still had not received our drinks, while others who arrived later had gotten their breakfasts.

I had to ask where our smoothies were, and finally after twenty five minutes they arrived. What infuriated us even more was that there was no apology, and the smoothies were not up to our standards. We left $13.50 poorer and unhappy.

Moral of the story, regardless of whether someone orders a drink, or a three course meal, customer service is important.

Thank you for your feedback. We completely agree, customer service is very important. We have a very young team who are learning to deal with such situations as we can get extremely busy. I hope you do return as those quality avo smash’s don’t grow on trees.
