“perfect place for group retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2012

Our quilting group (9 ladies) enjoyed a weekend stay here. Even thought the weather was cold, the open fire kept us warm in the lounge, and the heater in the dining/kitchen area was efficient.
All the rooms were attractively decorated, bathrooms are basic but adequate. Our room was very cold, but asked the owners for a heater and an apology was made that one wasn't already in the room and a heater was delivered quickly.
Breakfast was lovely. Home made stewed pears and stewed prunes, a selection of cereal, yoghurt , toast, and juice. The kitchen is amazing with everything you would need to cook up a storm.
Beautiful views, lovely walking track from lodge into town. I would thoroughly recommend this place for any group stay.

Room Tip: The front rooms all have lovely views, rooms further away from the living areas would be quieter, if...

We stayed here in November and had a great time. The hotel was located with excellent views across the inlet, the hotel owners were very warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The rooms are fairly basic and there was no tv in the bedroom which was great, because it helped us appreciate the natural beauty of the area. There was also a lovely big lounge with large recliners, an open wood fire and lots of books and board games. A very relaxing retreat and I would proactively recommend to friends.

To add to the enjoyment of our stay, Eden which is a short 60 minute drive away offers fantastic whale watching opportunities in October and November and we had some excellent experiences with calves learning to breach and tail slap.

Back at Mallacoota, there were some incredible beaches and a good selection of eateries.

I would thoroughly recommend this location to someone looking for a relaxing break away from it all.

We stayed at the Karbeethong Lodge for 4 nights in mid December. My partner chose this accomodation so I was unsure what to expect when we arrived. The lodge reminded me of a peaceful farmhouse overlooking the lake. Open decking, meals room and seating area were all filled with comfortable couches and chairs and well-lit. There was a fireplace you could light if you chose in the evening. The lodge is surrounded by many lovely walks in the bush and on the waters edge.

The room - our room would have been great for self-catered meals (we chose not to make the most of the stove and microwave facilities) and a quite evening. The bed was fairly comfortable. The bathroom was clean and contained a shower, basin/bench and toilet. Plenty of windows to open up and let in fresh air. Our room did not have a television (there didn't appear to be any at all) which was a bit disappointing as Mallacoota is very quiet in the evenings and we were a bit bored (we are in our early 20's). If you don't want to hear people talking in the front room in the evening don't request Room 10 - you can hear right through the wall).

Breakfast - provided breakfast was simple (cereal or toast) and you could have a cook up of your own in the large kitchen or BBQ if you wanted (BBQ was very old but we did notice it was used a couple of times during our stay).

Township - the centre of town is about a 5 minute drive. The township has everything you could need for a short-medium stay. There is a tourist centre which appeared to be open most days. We had a chat with the gentleman who was there and he provided us with a wealth of things to do and see. The neighbours of Karbeethong Lodge were also lovely and we had several chats with locals.

We enjoyed this short break and Karbeethong Lodge was a pleasant, relaxing, simple escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Great for some time out and still within reach of desired facilities.

We were travelling by car from Sydney to Melbourne with our 17 month old son and decided to stay one night in Mallacoota. We drove up to Karbeethong lodge after viewing what was available in town and reading the reviews on this site. The owners were gracious to accommodate us even though they were actually officially closed as they were doing some renovations to the property. We had a lovely quiet evening where we were able to make our own dinner in the large well-equipped kitchen while our son happily explored. The next morning, a fantastic breakfast was set out for us to enjoy. It is a comfortable, beautiful relaxing place to stay and the owners are friendly, helpful people. Highly recommended.

Karbeethong Lodge is an oasis on the south-east coast of Australia in Mallacoota, a town off the beaten track with one road in and one road out. Wonderful hosts, great facilities and an incredible view. My only warning - one night will not be enough.
