Without fail, our group goes to Tran's to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a banquet. This year, it was last Saturday night.
Chef Lanna served up a delicious banquet menu, consisting of -
Arrivee - Chargrilled Black Sesame Rice Cracker
Entree - Ginger Scallops - grilled Tasmanian sea scallops; and Chef Lanna's Chicken Salad - with special sesame and peanut oil dressing
Mains - Hanoi Fish - fresh trevally marinated in turmeric; Organic Goat Curry - mild dry minced goat with black sesame rice cracker and crumbled French goat's cheese; Hanoi Pork Ribs - twice baked with coriander and peanut sauce: Brown Buddha Rice - with mixed vegetables wok tossed in ginger and soy sauce.
Dessert - Lanna's Childhood Tapioca - with lotus seed and sweet banana, and ice cream

We had our own private room for 14 upstairs which added to the conviviality.
Bring your own wine - in our case it was sparkling.
We were the last to leave, which turned out to be a good thing because I had a chat with Lanna and wished her a happy new year. She showed me photos of her dog Simba - it is, after all, the year of the dog and I am sure that Simba will receive the very best this year. See photo of Lanna with photo of Simba on her phone.
I am already counting the days to next year, although we will go sooner than that to taste other dishes on the menu, and reprise our favourites.
