“An enchanting and magical stay at this luxurious but homely hideaway.”
Reviewed 14 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We have just returned from a truly magical week at Troedrhiwgelynen and only wish it was for longer. It is set in a absolutely stunning valley, surrounded by glorious hills just begging to be climbed - which we did. How I miss the views of those hills in the morning! On our one rainy day our oldest son took himself off for a walk from behind the house, returning a couple of hours later with wonderful photos from the top of the hill, even in the rain.
It is a wonderful environment for children, huge amount of space to explore, rivers, ponds, hills and fields .Our children of 14, 13 and 10 loved the games barn, especially the table tennis and the trampoline too.
The property itself is immaculate and of the highest standard throughout. We all appreciated the extremely comfy beds and good quality linen, so cosy and welcoming after a busy day. Thoroughly enjoyed cooking in the large and well equipped kitchen and didn't eat out once, preferring to spend time around the dining table chatting and in the living room playing shove ha'penny amongst other games provided. The house is so spacious, you never feel on top each other and can always find a quite corner.
Having the master bedroom downstairs in the old cowshed at the far end of the house was so peaceful and quite private, but next to a fab bathroom with jacuzzi bath and huge walk in shower.
Our favourite walk was to Llyn y Fan Fach, after seeing the photo in the master bedroom and it did not disappoint. Truly stunning views that took my breath away, you can see for miles and we were so lucky it was a glorious day. Another walk we enjoyed was around the Dinas RSPB nature reserve and then on to the Llyn Brianne reservoir, stunning scenery and so peaceful. Days out included the National Botanical Gardens of Wales with beautiful flowering summer gardens and the children loved the huge domed glasshouse. The Dan yr Ogof caves are certainly worth a trip too, amazing!
We would love to return to this wonderful house, perhaps in the autumn for the beautiful autumnal colours.
I can't fault our trip in anyway - just go, you won't be disappointed!!

“High class accommodation in idyllic setting”
Reviewed 8 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We have just spent the most fantastic 12 days at this exceptional holiday house in spectacular surroundings and splendid isolation, with our grown up children and 3 young grandsons. It suited all three generations, plenty of activities in the play barn, lots of exciting adventures down at the nearby river and bracing walks up the majestic local mountains and stop offs at local pubs and tea shops for refreshment. We were blessed with brilliant weather and so made full use of the the wonderfully tranquil garden for reading , playing games and just relaxing listening to the birds and the river and wondering at the views.
The house is very spacious and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need especially in the spendid kitchen where all the appliances are of high quality. The next door utility room proved invaluable for washing and drying clothes - playing in rivers can be a very muddy occupation !
Evenings relaxing in front of the wood burning stove in the beautiful sitting room were cosy and peaceful with an unlimited supply of wood in the yard opposite.
All the bedrooms are so tastefully and simply furnished with extremely comfy beds and us grandparents particularly enjoyed our beautifully quiet bedroom and bathroom in the cowshed at one end of the busy house !
The surrounding countryside is stunning, the hegdrows full of wild flowers and it really is a bird watchers paradise with frequent sitings of red kites gliding overhead, buzzards, tits, wagtails tree creepers and we even saw the cuckoo whose call we constantly heard in the garden. Two ponds in the grounds provide yet more interest. No need to venture far from the house to see and hear an abundance of wildlife. An honesty box is also just up the road which is filled daily with delicious fresh farm eggs handy for any meal.
Further afield Llandovery is a lovely little town with all amenities and selling good local produce at the butchers, deli and vegetable market. We had a good trip from there up high into the Brecon Beacons to Llan y fan Fach lake and high ridge with the most spectacular views. Nearer to home the RSPB Dinas reserve is a marvellously varied walk with bird sightings aplenty.

This is the best holiday house we have rented in every way. We would all love to return.

“Perfect Cottage Getaway”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

What an amazing place to visit for family & friends. Externally it has a beautiful backdrop amongst the Welsh countryside, excellent standard of finish internally and games room to really get the family competitions going! We wish we had more time to enjoy the surroundings - the weekend is simply not enough.

“Peaceful haven in the Welsh Countryside”
Reviewed 28 December 2012 for a stay in April 2012

We had a wonderful stay at Troedrhiwgelynen, and certainly hope to return! The location is very beautiful, nestling at the top of a lovely valley surrounded by fields - full of lovely newborn lambs to thrill the girls! - and in the middle of a RSPB reserve. There are delightful walks right from the cottage door, downwards along the river or up to the hilly tops where the views are superb, and dozens of others within a very short drive. Despite the feeling of remoteness (only one other farmhouse is visible across the other side of the valley) there is a pub just over a mile down the road, and another one serving excellent food in the village of Rhandirmyn a couple of miles further away, plus a shop and tea room. Even better, an online order from ASDA was delivered in good time making domestic matters exceptionally easy.

The cottage itself is both beautiful and bountiful. The result of a loving restoration using traditional materials it is as spacious and high spec inside as it is picturesque from outside, comprising the original farmhouse and the adjoining byre and barn brought into one unit .

The living area has been well thought out to give plenty of space for two families, with an open plan dining area leading through into a very large and bright kitchen in the old byre. It's a huge space, but the separate dining part retains an intimacy for meals, and you don't feel as if you are eating in the kitchen. The living room/lounge is also a great size, yet was wonderfully cozy thanks to the underfloor heating and the woodburning stove in the delightful inglenook fireplace.

Upstairs in the main part of the house are 3 good sized bedrooms, toilet and lovely bathroom, where you can lie in the bath looking out of the window at the fields! Then, downstairs beyond the kitchen at the end of the old byre is a master bedroom, with adjacent luxury bathroom and shower. Across from the house are several outbuildings, with a great indoor play area for the kids, with Table Tennis table etc - great for those wetter moments!

We've stayed in lots of cottages over the years, but never in one quite so attractive and superbly kitted out - it really was worth the drive south for the loveliness of this little part of Wales.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
