Lovely stay !

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks ago
Just returned from a very enjoyable overnight stay and would recommend this hotel for its fab location and views, friendly helpful staff, great buffet breakfast and comfortable beds.
This is an old building so therefore has some issues but this is only to be expected and somehow adds to its charm. It gave us everything we needed for our stay and would happily return

Superb couple of days (checked out 1 September). Ok the hotel is a bit dated but that only adds to the charm.
Check in speedy and receptionist cheery and helpful.
(Superior) Room facing the harbour had all the amenities and little extras you’d expect.
Dinner menu has simple but everything we chose was excellent on both nights.
Breakfast choice was superb with quality ingredients. Unusually for a “hot” buffet, everything was hot!
Big shout out to our young waitress, Millie, who was extremely attentive and did everything with a smile. The rude guest who complained about her needs to take a look in the mirror. She was visibly upset and he should be utterly ashamed.
Love Portpatrick and we’ll be back.

I give the Portpatrick Hotel 5 stars, as everything about this place was simply amazing. From the very beginning, the experience was exceptional, starting with the polite reception staff and roomkeepers. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, ensuring that every detail of my stay was perfect.

The location of the hotel is stunning—a true “house on the cliff” with breathtaking views of the harbour, sea, and village. This unique setting provides a tranquil atmosphere that’s hard to match. The combination of the beautiful surroundings and the warmth of the staff made my stay unforgettable.

The waiters during breakfast and dinner were also remarkable. Though busy as bees, they remained polite, considerate, and very respectful. I especially want to commend a young man named Cammy, who served us for nearly the entire week. Despite his youth, he was thoroughly professional and made our dining experiences truly enjoyable.

Another great feature of the hotel is its dog-friendly policy. You can travel with your four-legged companions and be assured that they will be welcomed as warmly as you are.

I highly recommend the Portpatrick Hotel to anyone looking for an extraordinary escape. This is a place where every aspect of your stay is thoughtfully considered, ensuring a memorable and relaxing experience.

We booked this hotel last minute for one Saturday night - from the picture and the price of the room we thought we were going to somewhere special but alas that turned out not to be the case. An old saying springs to mind “All fur coat and no knickers” 🤣 Oops - can I say that these days? 🫢

We arrived in the middle of a very smart wedding party which obviously made everything manic with regards to activity- however we enjoyed seeing the beautiful brides and most guests in traditional Scottish dress- thank you ladies 😊.

Our dinner in the not so busy improvised dinning room went well with excellent attention from Dylan the waiter. The meal was also very good too! Thanks chef 🙏

Our room was in the rear of the hotel so we didn’t have the magnificent view down over Portpatrick and the double bed was about 5 feed wide and not sufficiently wide enough for my partner to have her medical mattress topper at 3 foot wide. I therefore had to squeeze onto the remaining 2 foot 🫢. Most hotels have at least 6 foot wide beds these days.

Now come morning and breakfast - the dinning room was very busy with hotel guests and guests staying over from the wedding 😊. It was self service from an adjacent room and due to the cramming in of tables, became a bit of an obstacle course to actually get from your table round others and to the self service with heavy traffic between both 🤣 “Faulty towers” came to mind - even more so when someone accidentally I suppose dragged the fried egg container half way off the table spilling quiet hard fried eggs onto the floor. The gentleman- well he was at least a man made a rude remark about the hotel and pushed the container and remaining fried eggs back onto the table and made a hasty retreat 🤣

Apparently the hotel is under new ownership and have only been operating it 3 months- however the whole place is somewhat very tired outside and inside appearance and although they may need a good revenue stream to put it right I don’t think we the customers should be sponsoring this with the high price of the rooms until that price can be justified.

All the staff appeared to be doing their best under the circumstances and we thank them for that and wish them good luck with the managements efforts to get it right 😊

We had a wonderful welcome on arrival and the foyer of the hotel was beautiful with a lovely piano and amazing sea views. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and in particular Jodie provided incredible customer service. Unfortunately, we needed to unexpectedly cancel our booking and Jodie provided a swift refund and couldn't have been more understanding. We were so disappointed not to be able to stay for the night but hope to return at some point.

The location of the hotel is stunning and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The ground floor reception areas are very well presented but the room we had was a bit tired. That said, everything was very clean and the bed was comfortable.
The downside of our stay was the catrring. Breakfast was fine but dinner was really nothing special and the menu choices were unimaginative and disappointing. Also, there seemed to be a lack of leadership in the restaurant and the young staff - who were absolutely lovely - could have done with a senior presence to help them.
A few tweaks and this could be a really special hotel.

Room tip: Be wary of the step on the terrace. (It was to be highlighted with yellow paint ... it may have been done by now.)
