This a McMillan hotel which basically means it's old fashioned. However that doesn't mean it's run down or dirty, far from it. It is a nicely maintained, well kept hotel but the decor is so out of date. The dinner menu is brief but the food is superb especially the steak. The waiting staff are young but extremely good. The dining experience is better than in some 5 star hotels we've visited. There is a decent selection of whiskies but no aged or diferrently casked bottles. Small, basic selection of gins. Great views over Portpatrick and the golf club is a minute away but this is not a hotel for the kids. So leave them at home and have a nice quiet holiday to yourself.

Stayed here on a little road trip round Dumfries & Galloway and was not disappointed. I had a harbor view room in the newer part. It was worth paying for the view as it is so good both in the morning and evening. The room was spacious, with traditional decor and furnishings. The bed was comfortable and everything felt spotlessly clean. The view from the restaurant at breakfast was equally good and I felt sad I was only there for 1 night. To celebrate being in Scotland I had the "haggis grill" - haggis, bacon, potato scone and egg - wonderful. Check in and out was friendly and efficient. Parking easy

Another visit to one of our favourite hotels. We've visited many times, and already looking forward to our next stay at Christmas. The hotel hits the mark on many levels - location, rooms, food, and lovely staff. Ailsa and her team are great and always helpful and welcoming.
