Went with Shearings on our first coach holiday in the UK. The setting for this hotel is great, but unfortunately my experience in this hotel was not that great. The hotel takes great delight in printing a 3 page report about the hotel stating that the hotel was closed in January for 6-10:weeks for refurbishment.
The refurbishment in our room consisted of a paint job, if you looked at the ceiling the light fitting has been moved but the original place where it was remains visible.
It does look like the shower has had new tiles, but the window in our room is the old sash cord type. This window appears to have been painted numerous times. Yes I know the hotel is 300 years old, and it feels like it the floor in our room was uneven. In short it needs more done to it, they can still maintain the charm of an old hotel but they need to invest.
The rooms that are advertised look great but did not meet with our expectation.
Thank you for your review.
I am disappointed to read that your experience was not that great, I am even more disappointed to read that the room did not meet with your expectations as it has only recently been refurbished, not just a quick paint job, in March 2018. The refurbishment consisted of al bedrooms having brand new bathrooms, tiling, showers, etc and brand new beds, carpets, TV's, lamps and other fixtures and fittings. I will pass on your comment about the light fitting area and make sure that is brought up with the contractors.
The hotel produces a history of the building for guest information, and as the this refurbishment as well as the others is part of the history, we find no reason not to mention it. We don't brag about it, just simply list it as part of the history.
Stayed in the turret room above the main entrance, split level with toilet/bathroom on lower level up 4/5 stairs to a spacious bedroom with a window seat overlooking the fantastic views of Lochlomond. Room recently refurbished very clean, warm and comfortable sleep..The hotel in general is a bit quirky (Its an old building! ) Evening meal and wine reasonably priced, breakfast menu included usual buffet and cooked Scottish fayre.
Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback.
I am glad to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
Lovely hotel. Very clean. Staff very friendly and efficient. Good quality food. Drinks fairly priced for an hotel. Good evening entertainment. For what we paid could not complain. The views of the lake are stunning.
Thank you for taking the time to post this lovely review.

i cannot understand negative reviews of this hotel the staff were so friendly and seemed happy at their work . the room we had was as good as they get true value breakfast and the evening meal really good .when we arrived we went into the bar I ordered a pint of lager the barman politely pointed out there were 9 minutes to the time of Sunday hours serving of alcohol so I just went out and sat in the sun I was amazed 9 minutes later he walked up to me with a pint of lager [what service is that]

This was a superbly priced Shearings Self-Drive deal, and our review reflects the bargain price paid. It's a stunning location for a "shabby chic" hotel that has clearly had some attention in recent times, so it's much less shabby than many of this vintage. The staff were attentive, the food plentiful and tasty, and the surroundings delightful. We stayed in room 230 which had certainly benefited from recent redecoration and refurbishment. An excellent bed, comfortable and supportive, and a very good shower. The TV reception suffers from typical rural Scotland reception, and the WiFi is patchy and confined to the ground floor BUT why come here if not mainly for the stupendous scenery and surroundings? So technology rightly takes second place. Just one light-hearted comment on the bathroom: the designer look is wonderful, but the reason why most WCs are oval or round is surely related to the average shape of the human anatomy - who in their right mind would install a square one! All in all recommended on a deal.
Thank you for your lovely review.
I am glad to read that you enjoyed your experience and very happy to note that you like the refurbishment task that have been completed. It certainly has made a significant difference to the hotel and the guest experience.
We hope to welcome you back in the near future.
