We were part of a large group , enjoying a two day stay . The room was good and the location great. We had two evening meals and the staff served some lovely food, with choices in an efficient manner.I would recommend to other groups.

I stayed at this hotel Mon to Fri May 2018 with our coach party. We were given room numbers and told our luggage would be brought to us, but that took quite a lot longer than the half hour promised.
Our room (11) was very clean though a little small for two people with suitcases, and was right beside the kitchen exhaust and there was a low hum from it plus the smell of second hand food as we had to keep the windows open - it was an unusually warm week. The fan was switched off at night thank goodness but also on at 6.30am each morning, making a thundering noise - no alarm clock needed! My mattress was poor, I could feel the springs through it! The bathroom was too hot but very modern, no proper plug for the bath, but the shower was very good anyway. The TV was wall mounted and only viewable from the chairs in the room, but ok. Food was very good on the whole, and efficiently served in our own dining room. The staff were all very nice, helpful and hard working. Outside there is a small village square and a well stocked Spar shop, plus a cash point. Walking down the village I am reliably told there is a short footpath that leads to a viewpoint of Loch Lomond. On the whole a good stay.

We have just spent the weekend at this hotel on an organised group booking for approx 70 people.

Good points - extremely helpful front of house staff. Receptionist & bar staff were superb. The quality of service at breakfast on Saturday morning was terrible. We waited 45 mins for our tea & toast. The was only one young waitress trying to serve all the tables & another at the hot food buffet. Glaringly obvious mis- management of service. No apparent supervisor coming out to check or to get into gear to help them.

When I spoke to the duty manager she apologised & said she didn't know about it. A duty manager should know what staff are on & be doing spot checks on service to large parties.

Our room at first glance seemed clean & tidy. However, when I went to open the window it was clear that the windowsill had not been wiped for a considerable amount of time as it was covered in dust & grime. I then decided to give the room a closer look. All the surfaces like the top of the headboard, at the bottom of the toilet, tops of the mirrors had not been wiped for some time. Clearly no spot checks going on from head of housekeeping. Net curtains at the window were frayed too.

More worryingly the water in the bathrooms was excessively hot. When I accidently turned the temperature control instead of the on/off dial when about to get out of the shower, the water almost instantaneously turned scorching hot. Luckily i was able to move out of the way quickly but was still hit by a blast of extremely hot water & left with a reddened patch on my skin. Clearly either no thermostatic controls or faulty ones!

Yes the hotel is a bit dated but having good ongoing maintenance , some decent cleaning, more staff serving at meal times & little touches like biscuits included in the room refreshment tray, tissues in the bedrooms & some decent glasses in the rooms for guests to have a glass of water would help enormously.

Most importantly supervisors & duty managers need to be pro-active & check the quality of service in all parts of the hotel. Very disappointed by this lack of engagement. Even good staff struggle when they are poorly managed & standards can easily slip if understaffed.

Our first visit over the border and although the hotel was a little tired in places, staff were friendly and welcoming - always a good sign when despite two other pubs in the village, this place was busy with locals as well as visitors. The food was superb especially breakfast which was fresh and hot each morning, and nothing too much trouble for waiting staff. Loved the tartan carpets and roaring log fire. Will be back if we ever return to your beautiful country.
