Description: For the last two years The Green Room has been a unique spring and summer tea room that offers visitors Carradale's two greatest gifts - traditional hospitality and stunning views. Now Heather, our manager, is moving on to see the world so the tea room will close on the 16th September. From October 3rd 2014 The Green Room will be available as a self-catering holiday let. See the web site for details. The Green Room is perched on a cliff by Carradale harbour and looks across the Kilbrannan Sound to a panoramic view of the Isle of Arran. In the foreground below lies Eilean Carrach, a small island resting place for gulls, cormorants, oyster catchers, and shags. Seals and wild goats are frequent visitors and now and then an otter can be seen. Dolphins and Minke whales occasionally pass by and, when mackerel gather, gannets put on their astounding diving displays. We keep binoculars at hand for a better view. Or you can watch the fishing boats coming in and out of the harbour, passing yachts, or even a submarine. All this action takes place within the vast kaleidoscope of Scottish weather, the chief subject of William McTaggart's Carradale paintings.

Lovely location, excellent fresh coffee and scones with cream and jam. Delicious. Just what was needed after a long coast walk. Dogs welcome in the garden - water provided. Had to smile at the binoculars beside the loo window, which offered wonderful coastal views of birds, seals and scenery!!

The green room offers simple food done well, although the menu is small it is to a good standard and offers a different choice that you wouldn't find elsewhere. The staff are all really friendly and very accommodating.
The green room is surrounded by wonderful views of the sea and Isle of Arran and they have provided lovely comfortable seating and equipment such as binoculars and telescopes to get full benefit from the views. The upstairs room is a lovely mis-match of furniture, books and games etc making it feel very homely and relaxed. We ate there twice and enjoyed both times, can highly recommend the cakes!

Visiting The Green Room was a little bit of a surprise for me as I used to stay in the house next door during childhood holidays and the building used to be a dilapidated garage - oh how things have changed!
The building in itself is worth a visit as it is a great example of a regeneration and it is wonderful to sit overlooking Arran whilst you enjoy cake or a light lunch. The view is definitely one of the highlights as it is an amazing spot for wildlife spotting - we saw dolphins, seals, gannets, eider, guilliemots and a variety of other divers whilst we were there. I really like the fact that the cafe provide a variety of optics throughout the cafe for patrons to use - a definite plus.
The food itself is very enjoyable and what I would expect from a tearoom. The menu selection is small but well balanced and perfect if you are after a light lunch or tea and cake. It is clear that everything is freshly made on the premises and it is all the better for this.
We felt very welcome during our first visit and will be back again before we leave - hopefully we will be able to use the croquet lawn this time!
I would recommend visiting The Green Room if you are in the area as there are so many positives in this wee tearoom but do note that parking is extremely limited (I think there is just one space) and turning is tight so if you can manage the walk up the hill park in the harbour car park and earn your cake with a little walk.

Thanks for your kind comments. I'm glad that you like the Green Room. You are right that parking is limited but there are four spaces - five at a pinch. We encourage the able-bodied to walk up from the harbour car park but there is generally parking available for those who need it.
