As a member of the CRUK committee, I was saddened to read the review about the Bingo Night and staff in McNeill's. The pub has supported the local Cancer Research Committee by organising a variety of events and constantly fundraising. They have raised a substantial amount for a cause close to their hearts. The Bingo night was a successful night with £1678 raised.
McNeill's is a fantastic pub to go to and its facebook page shows how popular it is with the community. The staff are always welcoming, there is a fantastic atmosphere, live music and the place is always buzzing.
Thank you McNeills for your support to CRUK and speaking on behalf of the community - we think you are the best pub in the town.

One of the best pubs in Stornoway. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, open fire, regular live music . . . what more can you ask for!

Went recently with friends to a Bingo night they put on for Cancer Research. Great night! Lots of fun and they raised a fantastic amount for charity!

I have been frequenting this pub on and off for the past 6 months while working on the island, i particularly liked it as it is a traditional pub with a lovely fire, however that is where the warmth ends !! Not like a previous review which amazed me(i think it must of been put on there by the pub itself !) as i have never noticed anything like that in my visits, quite the opposite.
On numerous occasions you walk in and have to wait a few minutes to be served in an almost empty pub as staff/owner are on their phones. I have witnessed people walking out and many other locals have said the same, in fact on discussion a lot of locals avoid the place which is such a shame.
Th final straw for myself and my colleagues came on a Fri night when we entered around 9pm to Bingo night !! Yes, Friday night bingo ! We bought our drinks and 2 secs later a small older lady(security i think) walked up to us and said " if you make any noise you will be asked to leave !" How shocking ?? One of my colleagues walked out in disgust, however i was not wasting my money ! We continued to drink our paid for drinks and were very quiet but spoke in between games to then be told " this is for Cancer research you know ! " very rudely from the same Lady. And ?? Are we suppose to be gloomy on a Friday night after a hard week at work ? And nothing was said to Bingo players laughing and giggling i may add ! If they didnt want custom they should of had a sign saying "closed for silent bingo tonight ! " That was the last straw for us and i am afraid we will not be back until it is under new ownership.
I am hoping more people post honest reviews about this place as people need to know, service needs to improve as this is a very hospitable town, just not Mcneills !!!!

McNeills was the closest bar to the Royal Hotel where we were staying for a couple of nights. It is right in the centre of the pedestrian shopping area. It is a typical seaside type bar with wooden floors, barrels for standing at and old style heavy round tables. It was quite busy when we were there early on a Saturday evening and we got talking to some locals who made us feel relaxed and welcome.

If you find yourself at the end of the world, in Stornoway and it’s cloudy, the rain seems imminent, the wind blows your perfectly made up hair to a hot mess and you feel alone in the world, enter McNeills. The warmth of the ambiance, the classis Irish welcoming world of a Pub, the nice smile of the lady bartender who just awaits your order and if you are lucky the local musician singing a song you know then the world is alright. The only thing that makes this event better than described beforehand is a Harris Gin and Tonic, the best in the world. But one has to get lucky as we did, that some American sailors were stranded in port at the same time and brought the fun times to a whole different level. Cheers and Slainte, we love McNeills.
