This is a unique place and I can’t believe it was inhabited as late as the 1970’s! Now it is a museum and small hotel. It’s in a lovely setting and once you are done exploring the houses you can hike up a little for pretty views!

We stayed in the hostel in the Blackhouse Village for one night in August whilst cycle touring in the Outer Hebrides. We were very pleased and slightly surprised to find that they had beds available as we had found it difficult to find accommodation in Stornoway the previous evening (we don’t like to book too far in advance as how far we cycle depends upon prevailing winds, weather and ageing knees!) In fact we had an 6 bed dormitory all to ourselves!
As previous reviewers have commented, the hostel has been recently refurbished to a high standard and is extremely comfortable. Perched above the bay it is in a spectacular location - and you are surrounded by the other restored blackhouses, some of which are available as weekly holiday lets.

My daughter and I stayed 5 nights in Taigh an t-Seòladair Blackhouse on the edge of the world. What a unique experience to be able to stay at this historic site -- we felt as if we’d stepped back in time into a magical place. With stunning views overlooking the sea, our Blackhouse was snug and warm, no matter what the Hebridian weather decided to give us. Loved the heated floors, cozy fire and all the amenities, and my daughter especially enjoyed sleeping in the little cubby bedroom. Highly recommended if you are looking for a place to totally relax and disconnect from the outside world.

Stayed here one night whilst cycling Hebridean Way, £18 for a bed in a unique black house shared dorm with great facilities, showers, priceless views and friendly host Mary on hand. I’ll stay here again.

You pay £3.60 to get in and for what - you can only look in one house, the rest are holiday lets & a hostel. You can walk round the site but........
Small shop with the usual stuff. Didn't use cafe.
Girl on reception didn't seem particularly happy.
