We went to Plumber Manor for Sunday lunch. We were greeted by Richard, Alison and their staff who made us feel very welcome. Plumber Manor is set in a beautiful rural part of Dorset, the grounds are delightful and lovely to walk round. We enjoyed pre lunch drinks in the very comfortable bar whilst perusing the menu. The food was excellent - I chose Roast Beef (rare) and it was cooked to perfection; our party of four had selected different menu choices and everything was superb. The waiting staff were delightful - young and enthusiastic. I cannot think of anything derogatory to say about Plumber Manor - if you are visiting Dorset then a visit here should be top of your list for an "English Dining Experience"!!

Room Tip: Did not stay - just went for Sunday lunch

My in-laws treated my husband and I to an evening meal for our 7th wedding anniversary. The service was excellent and the food amazing. The setting for the hotel is idyllic but is quite a long way from any town so a designated driver is essential as a taxi would prove expensive. We had a beautiful evening.

We met friends for Sunday Lunch. Everything was wonderful. From the moment you step into the reception area it is clear that it will be special. The fresh flowers beautifully arranged, the greeting from mine host exuding warmth, drinks arriving almost immediately, yes, we were all set to enjoy. The meal was superb, and gosh, there was a dessert trolley, something which we hadn't seen for years. Yes, it is traditional, but goodness me, they could teach a lot of restaurants how it should be done. One of the best! Laurie R.

Plumber Manor House is a wonderful place to stay. If you are looking for 17TH Century English country manor house this is IT, still in the hands of the same family too. Richard is a fine host who manages to have friendly conversation with every guest at the same time as managing an excellent staff team with his family – this all contributes to an overall atmosphere of warm and friendly, efficient, fine service. I didn’t meet brother Brian the Chef but certainly enjoyed scrumptious dinner each evening – the sweet trolley is to die for!
I chose to stay at Plumber because I wanted a complete rest in a peaceful setting with my two Labs and to enjoy being looked after - this was totally achieved. My room (more of a small apartment) was in the Stable Courtyard and was just perfect when travelling with canines.
The sun shone every day, we had great walks, dogs swimming and splashing in the stream which runs from the lovely garden to a delightful ford where there is a stunning 17th Century pack horse bridge. Local farmers have left wide mown margins round their fields where you are welcome to walk as well as footpaths in every direction.
Many a relaxing hour was spent in the garden with book, papers and G &T. More energetic guests can play golf, tennis, shoot pigeons or drive round the villages.
I look forward to a return visit.

We visited Plumber very recently, in possibly the worst weather you can imagine (barring snow and ice), for a Sunday lunch to celebrate a family birthday.

It is always a pleasure to have positive comments reinforced when visiting somewhere new and from the moment we walked through the door we were all made to feel welcome and the whole atmosphere is one of comfortable congeniality. We felt as though we were being treated as houseguests rather than paying guests. We even “borrowed” the owners’ Labrador who kept us company for part of the time and will happily ensconce himself next to anyone who gives him a bit of fussing. The log fire burning in the main lounge was a treat (although one shouldn’t need it in late April!) and everywhere was beautifully warm.

The sofas in the lounges are deep and accommodating. Comfort is certainly the name of the game here and it is obviously a well-loved (and well run) family home.

We had pre-lunch drinks and delicious canapés in the small lounge, with plenty of time to chat and then we were shown through for lunch. The dining room is beautiful, the tables well spaced, beautifully laid, and the food was delicious. Because we were a relatively large lunch party, with time constraints due to travel, we had opted for a pre-ordered set menu. The food was all cooked to perfection, presented beautifully, absolutely delicious and there was certainly no skimping on the portions. The pud trolley is a marvel in itself and at least half of us had so much trouble choosing just one dessert that we opted for two! Service overall was absolutely spot on; attentive without being intrusive, efficient and friendly.

It was a real shame that as the weather was so against us we couldn’t see more of the house and grounds and we would love to go back and stay to indulge ourselves with walks in the surrounding countryside and sample more of the very generous hospitality.

This may all sound over-effusive but we really couldn’t fault a thing about our whole experience. Thank you to all for making our celebration such a memorable and pleasurable occasion.
