Had a fab weekend staying in one of the newly refurbished rooms with balcony. Handy walk to the beach (5 mins), pleasant grounds, ample good quality breakfast and very accommodating staff. Will definitely return soon.

We decided at the last minute to come down and surprise our son on his 40th Birthday as he was staying with his family at a nearby Holiday Park in Dawlish. It was only 10 minutes walk from hotel to holiday park which was ideal for us with no need for a taxi.
This hotel was a little bit more expensive than we normally pay without Breakfast but it was really nice and well worth it. We didn't pay the extra £25 for breakfast for us both but it would have probably been very nice. the restaurant looked quite smart.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, classic furniture and decor that might seem a bit old fashioned to youngsters, but a lot of the residents seemed older people Nice shower and bathroom, with usual toiletries, again more along classical lines.
We didn't have the chance to sample the indoor pool or snooker room but maybe another time as we would definitely stay here again in the future.
Reception staff were very friendly and nothing at all to complain about for our stay.

Diamond Wedding celebrations for my Uncle and Aunt. Easy Parking and check in. Room very clean and tidy. Evening Meal excellent. Super Breakfast and Well prepared Sunday Lunch though my personal preference is roast beef which isnt sliced quite so wafer thin, though thats probably all I can think of to grumble about. Good Otter ale. This is my second visit and both have been enjoyable. Very friendly staff. Wouldnt mind staying here if I am in the area in the future. I have stayed in hotels all around the world when I was a seagoing officer and this hotel is at least as good as the best I have stayed in.

We heard there was a ballroom dancing weekend to be held here, so checked out the Hotel on Trip Advisor, every comment was positive so we booked before Christmas 2017.
Perhaps when the hotel was built it catered for the carriage trade as it still has that air about it, but in other places its very modern. A good mixture and atmosphere.
After a pleasant drive down in Spring sunshine arrived at noon and decided to have lunch, as the room was not available till 3pm. Well I am glad I ordered a seafood ploughmans (?) to share between us. What a good lunch that was. I thought that was a good start to the weekend. The lounge we used to have lunch had a good view over garden area and no tv thank goodness to spoil the atmosphere. All public rooms were decorated like a large house, not the usual corporate uncomfortable cheap furniture thats for show.
After a pleasant walk along the beachfront (rocks) and a visit round Red Rock it was time to check in. Well room 46 on the garden facing balcony was huge, well maintained and bright. It was obviously a family room with a double and a single bed. Tea tray with a teapot and biscuits ( we had taken a small tea pot and biscuits based on hotel experience) but NROV. A pleasant bathroom with a shower ( including a drencher and traditional shower hose and rose) over a bath. No mouldy shower here, everything bright clean and functional. The only trouble with a drencher is if everybody decides to have a shower at the same time, NO DHW system is going maintain the demand, so have an early shower if you like it scalding hot.
Prior to our dinner we had a meet and greet cocktail party which was well organised by the hotel staff.
As it was a dance weekend we had the full use of the new (or refurbished) Washington Suite and very nice it was. The three course dinner (4 starters: 6 main courses with 3 vegetables and potato or salad if required: 4 deserts with a choice of ice cream, double cream or custard accompaniment) followed by coffee and mints: enough choices even for those on the strangest of diets. The staff being local and it would seem permantly employed had been well trained in serving and laying a table (which is something lacking in quite a few 4* hotels these days). It is the small things that are noticeable, such as the two spoons and a fork for serving the vegetables, the fish knife and soup spoon (not a desert spoon), side plates and butter knife. Cutlery not required removed discretely when serving.
Well we needed a good quickstep to shake all that down.
We were treated to a real surprise on the first night, a couple of teenage ballroom competition dancers, flying across the ballroom In their display of 9 (I think) dances, warming up the floor for us. Oh! to be young again.
After a pleasant evening dancing the night away, a comfortable sleep in the room, it was down to breakfast. Not being a Full English fry up couple we stuck with mueseli , fruit and toast. The one bad point I would say was the cold ham was looking a bit gray and the cheese looking beyond its best, perhaps more freshfruits rather than tinned would be an improvement. But that did not spoil our breakfast or the weekend.
The Saturday night dinner was equally as good as was the dancing, with a Snowball Waltz to surprise everybody, which started as a waltz, moved to a quickstep, cha cha and finished with a Pasa Doble, nice one Peter!
So all in all a very good weekend at a very pleasant hotel, that the staff are friendly but not familiar and well trained. I would certainly recommend this hotel to any discerning traveller. It is a good place to walk along the coastal path from, handy for Salcombe and other places.
Perhaps Corporate Hotel owners and managers should take a holiday at the Langstone Cliff Hotel and make a note on how it should be done, because most of them haven't a clue and charge a fortune.
Let us hope the hotel stays in the family for future generations to enjoy. Keep up the good work.

Well what a lovely hotel, from the moment we drove down the drive, until the day we left, we could not fault this hotel. The hotel, the lovely grounds, the room, the food, I cannot praise this hotel enough, and very dog friendly, our collie had more treats than we did, all in all a lovely few days away, lovely walks, will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are worth paying a little extra
