HM Prison Dartmoor is a Category C men's prison, located in Princetown, high on Dartmoor in the English county of Devon. Its high granite walls dominate this area of the moor. Very bleak, the prison has a Museum you can visit.

Informative, lots of interesting exhibits spanning the years and giving a real insight into how the prison has been used and the lives of those who had the misfortune to find themselves incarcerated there Well worth a visit Small charge but worth the entrance fee

Visited today for the first time. Excellent place with it's own car park opposite the prison itself. Packed with items and displays from the 1800's and teeming with information. Met and chatted at length with the curator (and also researcher) who told us even more about some of the more infamous prisoners who had been 'housed' there.

Highly informative and descriptive and even has a cat 'o' nine tails there complete with the whipping A frame which prisoners were lashed to for their punishment.

Excellent value for money and I suspect it is updated regularly.

Photography NOT allowed inside.

Museum is very cheap to visit and the staff are very friendly. There is lots of information about the prison which is very interesting. There is also a display of items that some of the prisoners had made whilst in the prison which are amazing. Worth a visit, we probably spent an hour there.

Stopped by having seen some garden ornaments for sale outside. Inside were the most beautifully crafted boxes and other wooden items. Didn't go round the museum but a couple arrived who were on their second visit within a year so I took that as a good sign.
