“one to avoid for accomodation”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2012

We booked two rooms for the night of the 9th April. This may look a traditional pub with rooms from the web site, but it is set up entirely open plan rather like a canteen. It was very cold and only had some heating turned on after repeated requests and threats to leave.
the rooms are very poor looking untouched for many many years. The towels supplied were left on the bed damp, i do not know if this was from a previous user or were just not dried enough.
The evening meal was acceptable . the greeting at breakfast was good as was the food.
We had a front room which was yards from the A30 despite the double glazing sleep was difficult

Room Tip: If you must go seek a room at the rear

The place looks like a lovely traditional pub from the outside, but disappointingly more like a Club House once you get inside. The interior of pub & rooms looks like it's not seen a refurb since 1976 & although clean - looks shabby because of it.
The rooms were old & tired looking, & the bathroom & shower in real need of updatng. You can hear the A30 - although this didn't interrupt sleep as obviously the traffic calms down through the night.
The beer & wine list were good & the dinner we had very nice for pub grub, with sufficient choice. Unfortunately the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere - as the lights were all on brightly, so again fed into the feel of eating in a holiday camp clubhouse rather than a pub restaurant. Dimmer lighting & a few wall partitions would work wonders & really help to restore the inside of the pub in line with the wonderful traditional outside.
The breakfast was plentiful - even if a choice of how you wanted your egg cooked wasn't offered), it was fried BTW - but all nice.
I would recommend the Prewley Moor Arms if you want somewhere very handy for the A30 to break your journey, & want a change from the Travelodge/Little Chef combo. But don't let the outside of the pub heighten your expectations too much. It is adequate for an overnight stay.

We booked bed and breakfast here after our walk on Dartmoor. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our rooms. We had booked dinner in the restaurant which was lovely with plenty of choice. The owner was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was huge! My only criticism would be the shower - I washed my hair and was in there ages as it was so slow!! Would recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room No.2 which overlooked the car park but still quiet.
