hotel lovely- staff on front desk and managers need to brush up on their communication skills when dealing with guests - this from conversations overheard whilst sitting in lobby- girls on front desk were unprofessional/ slack and rude to guest who was making legitimate
enquiry. Managers slow to respond and aggressive when dealing with guest- scene caused. Not good!

Hotel location is second to none, with wonderful sea views over the beautiful long sandy beach. However, you need a sea facing room, otherwise the hotel is not worth it, with a horrible back-view of the carpark. If it were not for the location, the hotel would be over-priced. Hotel has a victorian feel, with silver service and lots of willing helpers.

Restraunt and food was excellent, with a wonderful menu and high quality cooking. Being on a dinner inclusive package, we were disappointed we had to pay extra for the steaks. Whilst they were excellent, with nice chunky chips, they were not worth the additional fee!

We were glad we booked a "delux" room, as this included a sea view and balcony. However, the delux was still overall disappointing, with small pokey bathroom, stuffy feel, and very uncomfortable bed (matress needs replacing!). We both slept badly.

Ruth uses a wheelchair. Whilst a lift was available in main reception, we did not feel they though this through well. We were put on the top floor, also the last room in the corridor. Hate to think what would have happened if there were a fire. Despite being a delux, we could not get across the room, without folding the chair up. Don't know how we would have coped if Ruth could not walk. Similarly, in the restraunt we were placed near the entrace (good), but breakfast was self-serice and this was the other end of a long room, which meant lots of walking 2 & fro!

A recommendation for disabled users is that the beach shop has a special wheelchair to hire, that goes right onto the beach, even into the surf! One word of warning, the concier recommended the quickest way to the beach was the cliff path. Great, but MUCH TOO STEEP for a adult wheelchair. Use the car and pay the parking fee!

Would recommendthe hotel for location and food, but otherwise disappointing value.

My now wife and I have recently held our wedding reception at The Saunton Sands Hotel and had a 3 night stay.

Wedding Breakfast and Reception:
We chose this Hotel mainly for the spectacular views it offers of the Beach and many of our guest commented on our good choice. Also we were not disappointed with of the arrangements made by the events team or our assigned event Manager Carl, all conducted themselves and planned our Wedding Breakfast and Reception with great professionalism. We found the Hotel to be very accommodating and happy to consider your ideas, they very much have the philosophy of its your day your plan.

The Hotel has its own Florist team and not only did they do a great job but I guess would be much easier to use than an outside Florist. Also the onsite Hair stylist is very good and convenient for the Bride’s and Bridesmaids to have their hair done.

Location:
If you have every visited the Saunton Sands or seen pictures you will know how good it’s location is, with spectacular views over the beach from the Main Restaurant, Bar, Terrace and many of the rooms.

Rooms:
During our stay my wife had the Honeymoon suite for 3 nights whilst I had a single room for the night before the Wedding. My single room was rear facing so had no sea view, however it was clean and more than adequate for my needs. The Honeymoon suite on the 3rd floor is sea facing with a balcony and the room is spacious with a seating area. The view from this room is very good and you can lie in bed and watch the waves. The only negative about this room was the bathroom, it was clean and tidy though we thought too small for a Honeymoon suite and overall let the room down.

Food:
Our Wedding Breakfast and evening Buffet were both excellent and just how we had requested. We requested something different for the evening buffet, and as said already the Hotel was happy to accommodate. Food in general in is of a high standard with the evening meal in the main restaurant being exceptional. My only gripe was that on 2 mornings I had to wait a couple of minutes for sausages to be replenished on the buffet.

Staff:
Staff at this Hotel are in our opinion first class, always very friendly and very willing to help from the moment you arrive with the door opened by the smiling concierge.

In conclusion with we were very happy with this Hotel and think you would need to go a long way to find Staff as good, and many of our guests made comment on the excellent service and location.

We were guests at a wedding held at the hotel, the suite the wedding was held in was huge with views over the bay, we had drinks and photos outside then we move to another room for the reception; the food and service were excellent. Our room was clean, comfortable and stylish. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, we had the full English which was perfect after a heavy night!

I've been staying at Saunton Sands for over 30 years, as a child, a couple, and now taking my own kids. I've stayed there over 30 times, and probably know the hotel better than some staff, hopefully therefore what I write is pretty accurate.

First, as you can tell I keep going back, so I must like it.

What is really good about Saunton:
For me, the location and facilities are unparalled in the UK, the view and the beach are fabulous. The beach is miles long and really wide, great for beach activities and a big surfing centre (Robbie Williams Angel's video was filmed on this beach).

Facilities: Indoor and outdoor pool, snooker, table tennis, tennis, putting, approved kids creche, squash, Hair / Spa, regular entertainment (The DJ - Roger Lee is a legend), apartments / self catering available. Saunton golf course is next door, and is one of the best around. Part of the brend group of hotels it is family owned.

What is good / not so good.
Some of the rooms are dated, but they are constantly updating the rooms, although it is a big hotel. Rooms starting with a '4' are the oldest in the hotel and have no view.
Inland rooms will overlook the car park. You do get what you pay for and sea facing suites are very good and modern. For families book an inter connecting room, which is essentially a double and a single with a bathroom in the middle. This is art deco hotel, and bathrooms are comparatively small, but well equipped. Three floors of rooms in the main building. Rooms ending 01-20 (i.e 110, 212 etc..) are over the dining room. Rooms ending over 20 (i.e 126, 232 etc..) are over the terrace lounge, which is where the entertainment is at night - something to bear in mind with kids / noise, although clearly if you are on the higher floors the impact is less.

Food:
The standard hotel menu is decent but not great. Again you do get what you pay for, and the outdoor summer seafood restaurant is great, and a la carte food is very good, but both are extras even with a dinner bed and breakfast package. Breakfast is a decent, but not great buffet, you can also eat near the beach at the Sands cafe.

Price / Service
Generally I think the service is very good, with the odd exception, which you get at most hotels.
In school holiday times, Saunton can be very expensive (£150 / day / person / DBB) however look for off season breaks and web site specials and you can get some very good deals.

This is a great family hotel with the odd quirk, as I say I've been going for 30 years, and know many who have been going for longer than this, and that is probably the best reference you can get.
