We have been visiting The Sloop for at least 25 years and on our annual January week in Salcombe we headed over to Bantham for Sunday lunch. After a bracing walk on the beach we headed to the pub for our 2.30 booking.
Our table was ready reserved for us and as usual the place was full providing a nice atmosphere. Despite being very busy the waiting staff were brisk and attentive and we had soon ordered for the six of us including the two vegetarians.
A selection of lunches included the roast of the day (delicious rare beef in good thick slices), fish plus the vegetarian dishes. All declared their choices to be particularly full of flavour and serves freshly prepared and hot. No room for desserts unfortunately although I was tempted by the treacle tart! Next time perhaps.
Another thoroughly enjoyable visit to The Sloop. When we are next in the area, probably in April, we really must try and fit it into our itinerary.

Situated so close to Bantham beach, the Sloop Inn is a welcomed pit stop after a walk. The staff we met and served us were so friendly and work tirelessly. Its has a really warm atmosphere and we all felt relaxed as soon as we entered. The beef roast dinner was utterly delicious, beautifully presented and didnt take long to arrive after ordering. The chicken burgers, ploughmans and kids pasta are all yummy too. In fact no one in our party of 8 could find a single complaint! Dogs welcomed so it makes this place is wonderful place to eat, drink and relax after a walk! Definitely recommend :)

What does a person wanting a beer look for ? A pub. Right. What does a beer drinker look for in a pub ? Good beer. Right. I drank the first and realised the over charge either by intent or accident when I ordered the second. Ambiance? Oh so tired. Warmth. Sadly the pleasant log burner did not compensate for the "staffs" total lack of it. Maybe I just missed it . I don't think so. If I am to be over charged let it be with grace My lady expressed the good sense that since we would not wish to return, there would have been no advantage in complaining.

Every time we visit this part of Devon we head for Bantham beach and of course lunch at the Sloop which has become a family tradition

If you are looking for a warm welcome, great location, great food and good value then make sure you take a visit

The road down to the Sloop from the main road is very busy in the summer but well worth it as Bantham is a very populat surfers beach and so nothing better than lunch at the Sloop before or after a long walk or surf

Dogs seem to be very welcome which i think,is a good judge of the landlord's character

Plenty of choice on the menu and so do make a visit

We go here for a meal at least once when we come down every year, a great cosy eating place. Get booked in a couple of days before you plan to eat as it gets real busy especially on a Friday/Saturday and Sunday Lunch. Cant recommend the place enough!
