Purely in terms of food, Hectors is a fantastic catch of the day - the chips were fluffy and golden brown, with a delicious and large piece of cod. You can also get the local Liberation Ale there as well. However, the service was lacklustre - we ordered a side of mushy peas which were totally forgotten about (we had to get them removed from the bill) and we also had to chase up our drinks order, after tables served after us got there drinks way before ours. Good food, sub- service.

Brown, burnt chips cooked in oil that needed changing. Soggy batter, tasteless fish, an impolite waiter and dirty toilets. Ironically there was a young, woman counting bundles of cash (takings) on the next table.

We ate it (partially) because we were hungry.

BEST AVOIDED.

Loved the baby fish and chips and also tried the Liberation Ale. Batter was melt in the mouth and fish fresh. Hand cut chips tasted great. The owner served us and was highly amusing and attentive. We were only in Jersey for 3 days but went back twice. We will be back next year, wish we had fish and chips like this in England.

We live 1500 kms from the nearest ocean so I’ve not eaten fish in quite some time, I simply refuse to believe fresh and that sort of distance can co-exist.
We’ve tried a few of “the best” fish and chip shops on Jersey now and hands down but the most authentic, best tasting and best priced is Hector’s. This is fish and chips as it bloody well should be!
