“A real treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2011

Staying at the Woodlands is like walking into a storybook. The accommodations are very comfortable, beautiful and lush. The surrounding gardens are gorgeous. Breakfast is filled with many choices and the starters are often homemade from the fruits of the gardens. The hosts are delightful and full of helpful advice about traveling in their neighborhood. Ask about the house being "haunted".

Room Tip: There is not a swimming pool. All rooms are delightful. Some are smaller than others, but still co...

Woodlands Country House B&B is only a few miles off the motorway and a more intimate accommodation choice than some of the big hotels in the area. The B&B is beautifully cared for and the gardens are gorgeous.

I booked into the B&B in September while my parents were over from Australia and I'm so very glad I did. It was mum and dad's last weekend in Ireland before heading home and it was such a treat to stay there. We were chancing our arm a bit squashing my family of 4 into one room and my parents in another, but Philomena was very accommodating and it all worked out fine.

We arrived on a blustery and showery afternoon to find a nice warm cuppa, brack and scones waiting for us in the cosy living room. We also used one of the B&B's suggestions to book the Corkscrew restaurant in Gorey for dinner and enjoyed a lovely evening in town that night.

After a good sleep that night we were presented with a smorgasbord of treats for breakfast. (Sorry that my little ones ate all the berries. The B&B is not far from a berry farm and Philomena definitely uses this to the advantage of her guests). But it was the little touches that I enjoyed, like the description on each breakfast item to explain what it contained, which was more helpful than you'd know as mum has a number of dietary constraints. There was also a printed menu which contained a number of suggestions on things to do in the area. You'll find there is more than enough to keep you entertained in this beautiful part of Ireland.

I thoroughly enoyed our brief stay at the Woodlands and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: If you book well in advance try for one of the larger rooms as shown on the website.

Saw this was number 1 and had to stay here. It is as good as everybody says.
Stayed one night, while the host were away. We were looked after by a lovely young Dutch lady who was very welcoming and very helpful. Hospitality and surroundings second to none. Highly recommended by us.

Woodlands is a very attractive house set in lovely grounds surrounded by beautiful countryside, but its best feature is the warm friendly reception you receive on arrival and throughout your stay. Philomena is the perfect host, who embodies true Irish charm. She has a great knowledge of the area which she is happy to share and so enables her guests to get the most out of their visit.
Philomena's breakfast is a feast, you awake to the aroma of soda bread which she bakes herself every day, her buffet is a fantastic spread and includes delicious seasonal fruits and if you follow this with her full Irish breakfast you will certainly not be hungry for the rest of the day.
Our bedroom was large and very comfortable and furnished with cosy armchairs and had a balcony looking out over the garden. It was a very welcome retreat after a day of touring, more like home than a hotel. A wonderful taste of Irish Hospitality
