Ivyleigh B&B is ideally situated just off the main thoroughfare thus ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. There is ample parking at the rear of the house.

We were welcomed and shown to our room in a friendly and professional manner. Information freely available but no tirade of questions as is sometimes the case in other establishments!

The house is beautiful. High ceilings with tasteful room decor. Our room though not large was perfectly adequate with a fine sized en suite. Plenty of good quality towels on hand. No skimping on products. Drinking water/ tea/coffee facilities and biscuits all there for us.

The breakfast was the icing on the cake, ample home grown fruits of various kinds, the finest granola, freshly made bread baked on the premises, excellent preserves plus a full breakfast of outstanding quality ingredients. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were a treat indeed. Everything served was aesthetically pleasing, tasted amazing and was served efficiently and pleasantly.
At €115.00 per room per night with breakfast, we agreed it was very good value for money, the standard being exceptionally high. Will definitely return to visit again soon.

Room tip: Although we slept soundly, beds were wonderful but some maybe a little creaky!

After spending several weeks in Ireland as tourist, my husband and I decided to take a quiet and relaxing break in Portlaoise. We found a gem of a guesthouse at Ivyleigh House and had the pleasure to stay three nights. This is an elegant yet charming and relaxing home with the most wonderful host and hostess, Jerry and Dinah. They were so helpful and kind ensuring that our stay was pleasant, comfortable and enjoyable. One awakens to the smells of fresh bread baking as Dinah is up early each morning to bake her delicious breads. Her made to order warm savory breakfasts are truly delicious with a wide assortment of fruits, compotes, cereals, yoghurt and fresh squeezed orange juice. She is an incredibly cook! We found Portlaoise a wonderful town with pubs, restaurants and shops to enjoy (Dinah is terrific at recommendations and directions). The proximity of the guesthouse to the train and bus stations as well as town center make it convenient for walking 5--10 minutes or less. Even though these are all close, the guesthouse is quiet and we slept comfortably each night. We highly recommend the Ivyleigh, we found a real gem and you will too!!

I regularly stay at Ivyleigh House when I am in Portlaoise. It's in a nice area of town close to the train station and shops/restaurants but nonetheless very quiet. Relaxed elegant atmosphere, rooms are spacious with lovely period furniture and all creature comforts. Dinah and Jerry make you feel right at home. There is a lovely guest sitting room downstairs, secure car parking and the breakfast is fantastic.

My husband and I stayed in this period B&B for one night and really enjoyed it. We had a lovely room with a superking size bed which was very comfortable. It is an old house with very high ceilings so the room was a bit chilly, but the electric heater helped. There was also an electric blanket on the bed so we were nice and toasty! The bathroom is quite small, but the shower is fantastic!! Yes, you are asked what you would like for breakfast on arrival and at what time you'd like it. Everything is cooked from fresh, so we completely understand why you'd give your order the night before. Most people surely know what they like and do not like for breakfast on a daily basis? We found the owners welcoming and very helpful. The B&B is on a main road, but it is not a very busy road and we did not hear much traffic noise at all. Yes, the interior is a little dated, the TV in our room, for example, is a tiny portable, so do not except a big fancy flat screen. We are not sure about WIFI as we did not look for it. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again.
