There is something about the Irish that draws them back to their native land. It is something as nebulous and strong as that yearning to leave it and wander far from it. When you see Graiguenamanagh and its setting nestling by the beautiful river Barrow where the Duiske adds to its flow; its graceful bridge inviting the traveller to enter; its bars inviting the same traveller to stay awhile and talk and rest; its huge and ancient Abbey inviting you to pray and reflect awhile on the mystery of life itself, you know why the Irish want to return and you want to know why they ever wanted to leave in the first place.
This is a beautiful place and those who want to stay want you to stay and so they make you welcome. This is true of Brandon Cottages as it is of the whole village. We came to attend the Baptism of our grandchild. We brought with us children and grandchildren. The weather was good. The place was beautiful and the welcome was lovely. There was plenty to do even for the little children - they had space outside. The area is interesting because of its history. The village of Graiguenamanagh is fascinating. I am still puzzled as to how it maintains 13 pubs.
